GTUG in Omsk. How it was
Hello habruppel!
This weekend, i.e. August 27-28, Chrome Hackathon was held in Russia and the CIS . Having learned about this, I began to look for where this event will be held in my city (Novosibirsk). And what was my surprise when I found out that we do not have a local GTUG group, and I have to go. After reading all the references, I chose the city of Omsk: there was where to stay, and not far from Novosibirsk.
The first day. A performance by Mike West was scheduled for this day (presentation presentation: mkw.st/20110827 ).
The presentation was written using html 5 and it looked very impressive. Mike talked about the basics of how to work and develop add-ons. The only thing that, in my opinion, was missing after Mike’s performance was for a local expert in each city to show how to start developing add-ons. Still, not everyone has English - this is their native language. The rest of the day was spent studying user requests and developing an add-on framework. I chose a difficult addition: an analogue of imglikeopera in chrome.
Photo from the first day:
Coding session in St. Petersburg (It seems that Mike has an addition, and he will win :)): Alexey (organizer of Omsk GTUG) talked about what awaits us in these 2 days: Ready for the video broadcast:
Participants are preparing to actively code, and some seem to have already done half: Participants received badges with a browser logo: As soon as my add-on is ready, I will draw up an article about this. But it will be ready only after google translates the API I need into a stable. For now, if someone wants to help me in testing, leave your emails in a personal account, and as soon as there is something to test, I will write to you. According to statistics, on the first day in Omsk 30 people came. This is the second largest result for all cities. I think that we need to separately thank the organizers.
Second day. On this day, 2 reports were planned: Mike West (the report told how to debug his work, and, as far as I remember, the experimental functions for adding functionality to devtools were shown), Alexey Shelestenko (the report was about the Web Store, about how to make money on your applications). At the end of the second day there was a demo festival where all the participants told what they managed to do, how they managed to do it and what will be done in the future. Unfortunately, the train left before the event ended, so I had to leave the city of Omsk.
Photo of the second day:
Mike tells the report: Google Hangout in action (capturing the screen from Mike’s monitor to show examples): I lit up when I talked about something: Rest between coding sessions:
Someone managed to take the "bread" places: The best addition in Omsk was the addition of Pixel Perfect (as soon as the guys put it in the public domain, I will add a link) It is worth noting that the video broadcast was organized perfectly, the only thing that was bad was questions were almost inaudible. I think this moment will be taken into account by the organizers in the future. On both days, pizza and juice dinners were organized. Cookies and tea were available throughout. I didn’t have to go hungry :) I would like to thank Omsk and the organizers : Alexey Korovyansky, Yakov Lilo and Yegor Nepomnyashchikh, a huge human thank you. Continue in the same spirit.
