Samsung: tablets invented by Stanley Kubrick, not Apple

On Monday night, Samsung filed a lawsuit to protect against Apple’s lawsuit as part of Apple’s patent infringement process in the United States. It is too early to make assumptions about Samsung’s defense strategy, but some fragments of these documents have already leaked to the press.

For example, one of the elements of a protection strategy is that the idea of tablet computers was invented and appeared in popular culture (prior art) long before the release of the Apple iPad. As a proof of this thesis, Samsung presented a frame from Stanley Kubrick’s famous film “2001: A Space Odyssey,” which was released in 1968 . This frame is published on page 2 of a binder file submitted by Samsung to the Northern California District Court.

Samsung also provides a link to Youtube , where you can watch the specified fragment from the movie.

In addition to him, in court documents there are shots from other famous films and science fiction series, the characters of which use tablet computers.

Samsung argues that the Apple patent describes just such a design of the device, which is shown in the above films (a rectangular computer, in a thin case, with a flat front and back parts, in which the display covers almost the entire area). Therefore, this patent should be invalidated and all claims against the defendant removed.
