Another project that gave way to MSTU. Bauman

Most recently, my future fellow student threw me a Habr link with a very interesting, but not a new subject for me - As I did in Baumanka, or “Step into the Future” .
The described project was interesting, because I myself am a Shagist with 3 years of experience and have seen many projects of different guys.

In the end, I also wanted to introduce you to my project, which allowed me to go to MSTU (the place where you die) them. Bauman . The idea to make a project for the “Step” arose in September 2010 during the tediousness of teachers intimidating our parallel with the “scary” word of the exam. At that time, while my classmates, under the pressure of teachers, ran to tutors and crammed / memorized tests, and I started work on the project.
The idea of ​​the project was suggested to me by my wonderful mentor Valery Sergeyevich Dolinsky , his initial idea was the development and creation of a self-propelled mobile complex with a hybrid system consisting of a diesel generator and a solar battery. But I didn’t really like this idea, because I am an electronics engineer, not a robot engineer ... Yes, and in my town of Nadym there are practically no technical capabilities to independently make a platform for such an installation, and
, in my opinion, ordering a finished product from China is not very right, because you need to think with your head, not with Chinese hands.

In general, a month later I already knew for sure that I wanted to develop a methodology that would modernize a diesel power station based on the Sever container and turn it into a hybrid one. As a result, my project was named
Automatic hybrid power plant based on a diesel generator and a solar battery


The essence of the project is as follows.
In the vast expanses of our country, a large number of diesel power plants and diesel generators are used. Tons of diesel fuel are consumed daily to generate electricity in areas where the power engineers haven’t set foot. Diesel generators are especially relevant in the Far North, because not all industrial complexes are electrified by power lines. For such remote areas, a completely new type of power plants has been developed relatively recently - diesel generators in the block container Sever.

My development will help to significantly reduce diesel fuel consumption during daylight hours by adding a solar panel to an existing power plant. As you can see, this power plant is an insulated container filled with diesel generator and electronics. I immediately drew attention to the fact that the roof of the container is perfectly flat, and you can easily place a solar battery on it! From my experience with optical systems and solar panels, I know that the solar battery must be movable and constantly directed perpendicular to the sun to obtain the highest efficiency throughout the daylight hours. In other words, the solar battery should be located on a movable platform, while the electronic system should direct it
in the sun, guided by photo sensors.
As a result, we managed to simulate the appearance of a hybrid power plant in 3ds Max.


Next, I faced a more serious, but interesting task: how to implement all this technically? Below is a block diagram where you can see the principle of interaction between existing power plant systems and the system I developed. The control system I

proposed is an electronic circuit that is controlled by the PIC16F877 microcontroller.

Of course, I did not set myself the task of creating a real prototype of such a power plant, but I did make a working model on a scale of 1:20! Further, the model became the main highlight of my project. Below you see a photograph of a demo model, it is mainly made of plexiglass and wood. The solar battery for installation was made to order and cost 1000r.

The rotation of the solar battery in two planes is carried out using electric motors with gears.

For a more visual demonstration of automation, I had a need to make a model of a real diesel generator. To do this, I connected 2 electric motors of different power by a belt drive, thereby obtaining a generator simulator.

The final step was the soldering and debugging of the control system itself, the creation of “intelligence” for installation, so to speak. As mentioned earlier, the circuit is designed based on a PIC microcontroller.

By New Year, my demo installation was 85-90% complete. The final touch remained - painting the wooden rotary base of the solar panel in metallic. Meanwhile, classmates were nervous and indignant over the upcoming exam and told me that “it would be better if you prepared too,” but I was engaged in a very fascinating process. After the New Year, trips began with my newfound development throughout Russia. I was lucky with this project, and in fact at all exhibitions and conferences I was awarded only the first places .

In March, I took my next step: I successfully defended the project at the “Step into the Future” conference in the Design and Production Technologies of Radio-Electronic Tools section. In Baumanka, the jury also liked my device, for which I received a diploma “For the best scientific work”. After a couple of days, I successfully wrote the Olympics, which I sometimes prepared for in the evenings. That's how I entered MSTU back in March. Then he defended the honor of a Bauman student and passed the Unified State Exam no worse, or even better, than those who stubbornly prepared and hired tutors.

The moral of this fable is this:
Dear schoolchildren and applicants, listen to your teachers less when they intimidate with preparation for the USE, if you are not stupid and think creatively, then you have Over9000 ways to enter the best universities in the country. The most important thing for the Academic Council of Universities is to recruit creative and promising students, and not the classroom students from Adygea. Programs similar to the Step into the future exist in almost every university that respects itself. Designing a project and writing a scientific paper is many times more useful than cramming tests! Time and money spent on creating the project more than justify stress and nerves during the preparation / delivery of the exam. And, of course, the biggest bonus is not spoiled due to
your parent's vacation income. After successfully defending and receiving benefits for admission, you can already apply for documents at the university on May 25th and freely come off all summer, while your classmates will be sitting on needles waiting for lists and running around the universities!
