Where to go to an effective specialist
Recently, as part of the program committee of the SQA Days conference , we started a discussion on the topic "Why do many companies do not want to let people go to conferences and why they do not want employees to become effective."
LeshaL voiced the idea: “Many companies do not see the point in making employees speak. Why dont know". After that, the main discussion began.
The question immediately arose: “What do companies have from this?”
But indeed, for the employer, employee participation in conferences creates additional risks:
- the employee can be removed;
- an effective employee will require additional funds to support his motivation;
- an effective employee partly interferes with sales, as in a week he can do what his less experienced colleagues in 2 months. Here is an example cited article .
- an effective employee with an active lifestyle is potentially dangerous; he creates a radical mood around him. Not all offices are ready to change anything for the better in order to maintain such a mood.
Where to go to an effective employee?
To begin with, I would like to analyze the risks. Of course, in certain conditions created by company management, the risks may well be realized.
But let’s think, "an employee can be lured". In my opinion, it’s hard to catch a person who is satisfied with the work in the company, motivated. Communicating with such people, a common detail was noticed. People were kicked out because of internal problems of the company and, as a result, growing dissatisfaction of employees. A good reason, isn’t it? Who responsible for creating the conditions is also understandable.
"An effective employee will require additional funds to support his motivation". Many books / articles have been written about motivation. Often material motivation is called evil, so we won’t consider it. Companies have enough tools to maintain the motivation of such employees and remain profitable. The main motivator for such an employee can be the creation of conditions for his work. He It will fly forward and will quickly, very quickly, carry out the tasks that are entrusted to it. Yes, for this we must try to change something in the traditional ways of companies. Who is responsible for creating the conditions again spot. If nothing is changed, there is a risk of losing the person. When it sucks in a swamp which does not change or do not give change anything, he seeks to escape or forever be bound in the swamp.
Regarding the training of employees, as a factor of additional motivation, the opinion was voiced that “it might not be profitable for large companies to just send to a conference, not to mention speakers. Unless they have a goal to create a positive image and thus attract crowds of green recruits. That is, the goal is not at all connected with those people who are actually sent to the conference. ” It is a pity that this idea really firmly sits in the heads of the leaders of such companies.
"An effective employee is partly hampering sales ." I generally disagree with this risk and the article cited in its confirmation. If the management does not know how through effective staff to increase sales, the turnover of the company, it is the wrong direction :)
