Rather, the patient is alive: Toshiba Satellite 2410 recovery

    Hello, Habr!

A few years ago, the Toshiba Satellite 2410 laptop came into my hands . Got rid of unnecessary gave one friend. At that time it was a very worthy machine. But. He had a shot through the screen, broken loops. For some time the laptop was used with an external monitor, then the need for it disappeared and it was finally abandoned in the pantry.

    Speaking of specifications:
    - Intel Pentium 4-M 2GHz
    - 256 RAM (2 slots for RAM)
    - nVidia GeForce 4 420 Go, 1024x768

So how did you get the idea to restore it?
One spring evening, a friend and I studied a usb network card for a couple of dollars. And then I remembered this laptop. But can we make of it ... a router? A friend, having learned that a working laptop was lying in my pantry, but with a broken screen and, as it turned out, without a charger, suggested to buy a matrix for it. On ebay. To which I laughed, they say from where to such an old matrix.
But a friend still forced to drive a modelka into the search ...

And, lo and behold! One of the first in the search results is the same laptop , judging by the description of the screen in perfect condition, but some errors while loading.
The power supply, RAM, drive, hard drive and battery are not included. Lot price - 28 dollars. But there is an opportunity to bargain - make offer. It is decided, we will take. After all, do boys like to play constructor?
They made an offer of 22 dollars. After a couple of days, the seller agreed, the lot was sent. The idea of a router was abandoned.
Also on ebay, a charge for $ 10 was bought.

A month passed, the laptop and charging arrived.

The American was in very good condition, a couple of scratches on the lid. The screen is fine. When loading issued "IDE # 1 ERROR". The keyboard lacked the X key.

Well then, it's time to go to surgery. The wounded laptop was already taken apart.

    Dismantled the American.

And here we were surprised: there was not a single speck of dust inside the American. At all. There was no dust even in the cooler. It was a shock.

By the way, at Toshiba all bolts are numbered, which is incredibly convenient. When disassembling, we used containers for each type of bolt.

    Of the differences:
    - There was no wheel on the American touchpad
    - The American does not have a card reader.
    - The operating system on the American - Windows XP pro

The processor for this laptop is removable, but both of them were the same.
It was decided to leave the mat. payment of the Russian laptop. Screen, covers, touchpad, keyboard - American.

We missed the processor thermal grease, changed the touchpad, connected the keyboard and a brand new (yes!) Screen.

The key to the strategy! Well, that is, a power supply into a power outlet.
And then a surprise awaited us - nothing appeared on the screen. And no sound signals.
We checked all the connections - everything is in order. It turned out that they forgot to stick the RAM. But it is surprising why the laptop did not emit any signals without it.

Well, everything starts, you can collect.

At this time, another hands appeared to hold the camera - I actively joined the process :)

Assembled. The letter "X" was taken from the Russian keyboard.

A hard drive was found at a local forum, a friend donated two 256MB RAM dies.
Win XP Pro (ENG, OEM) was installed on the laptop. By the way, the drive from the Russian laptop completely refused to read the disks correctly. After inspecting the drive, it turned out that basically the discs were inserted into it smeared with sunflower oil, not otherwise. The drive was repaired with liquid for cleaning the LCD screens and a soft cloth.

As a result, we got a great typewriter for internet, old toys and office work. The battery holds for about an hour. Wi-fi is now via usb, but soon I will order a mini PCI module.
The appearance is excellent - it will not be a shame to give.

By the way, the first thing I put on the laptop was the first Starcraft and Diablo II. I wanted to remember the past. Indeed, on modern full hd screens you cannot play these games in full screen, and this laptop has a resolution of 1024x768.

    Costs:
    1. Notbook - 22 dollars.
    2. Charging - $ 10.
    3. Shipping to Russia - $ 40.
    4. Hard drive - 300r.
    5. European power cable for the power supply - 140r.
    Total, about 2600r.

The enjoyment of the process is priceless.
