Good afternoon. Currently, many articles have been written about cloud technology, but it’s not written explicitly for who they are or how much they cost. More precisely, even to which market segment — similar technologies are needed.
The purpose of the article is to tell the reader the features of such a hosting, and evaluate the market for the provision of such services from public (company websites) information.

In the table, tariff plans are calculated without taking into account "Dynamic resources", i.e. only what is guaranteed by the service provider. Information taken solely from the content of public sites, at the beginning of April 2011.

ispserver.com: everything is calculated for specific loads. They give 5 days for a test calculation of the loads, on the basis of which the price is formed.
selectel.ru:Managing the Xen Cloud Platform, which includes the Xen 3.4 hypervisor. Limited to 8 cores per pad.
clodo.ru: A tricky approach to calculating cores. For every 256MB, 6.25% of the core power is guaranteed. A virtual server with 4096MB RAM is guaranteed to be allocated 100% of the Intel Xeon E5520 core (2267MHz). Virtualization based on the XEN hypervisor.
scalaxy.ru: 450MHz guaranteed for 1 slot. 1 slot - 512MB RAM. In total, 1 platform has up to 16 cores. Managed under the Xen Cloud Platform, which includes the Xen hypervisor. Number of slots affects the external speed of the Internet. 8p disk space - for 1 GB per month.
This type of hosting is excellent for replacing the rental services of the "iron" server or VPS. In cloud hosting - administration is already included in the lease and does not require additional costs. The deployment of this service for the client will take a maximum of 24 hours, this is if the order is not standard. You can also recommend this service to startups, as The “trick” in such hosting is that you can quickly, without switching to another platform, increase capacity.
I have one client with one site. The site selling all kinds of expensive nonsense, respectively, the competition was fierce.The client read about the Clouds and decided to leave the fixed VPS tariffs for the Clouds. At that moment in time, the administrator worked for him. Together, they considered their resources used up - they saw that they were overpaying for VPS and decided to use services where the cost of services for specific resources used were calculated (CPU RAM RAM). Lived a month, lived two. This company began to grow due to attracted customers from the Internet. At some point in time, the “astronomical” account came to them, “what the hell”, the company was surprised. They began to understand and saw that their site was not clear requests. We read the log - came to the conclusion that they were finished or actively tried to break. Of course, the server processed all these requests and added money to the client’s account for the resources used.
This is the clearest example of the misuse of cloud technology. I think that there are many similar cases. Only one table of calculations of these parameters - causes a shock among customers.
The other day I talked with an interesting person. The company is engaged in the analysis of social networks. They rent several servers at night from Amazon. In their business, servers of high power are required, but not constantly, but specifically for calculation. In addition, at night at Amazon, servers are cheaper; maybe they are idle. That's how the company found a way to save on renting a large capacity server using Cloud.
I can only advise you not to use hosting services - where you pay for the resources used, because if you don’t understand their calculation and don’t want to follow your project for days. If you still want a cloud and the project is designed for growth, then of course cloud technology is an excellent service, but you need to buy tariffs, where everything is calculated in advance by the resources for the month (see table above).
