Small Anniversary - Half-Year MultiCards

Today for me and MultiCart a rather important date: exactly half a year ago, on October 8, 2010 (by the way, it was also Friday), I registered the mmaps.net domain and uploaded the first version of the site.

Let me remind you that today the service is an aggregator of cards of 8 different services: Google Maps, Yandex Maps, Bing Maps, Yahoo Maps, OpenStreetMap, Kosmosnimki, Wikimapia, ProGorod. Moreover, the maps can not only be conveniently viewed (when switching from map to map, the place and scale are remembered), but also share a link to the desired place. This is the main function, but there are other goodies about which below.

Over the past time, not much has changed, but there is progress. What has been added over this period?

1. Most importantly, new maps have been added. Space images, Wikimapia, Pro-City. By the way, Rambler uses Pro-City maps.
2. The mode of viewing two maps at the same time is implemented.
3. I connected the ability to display traffic jams (Yandex and Google), and in the display mode of two cards, too. Those. on both at the same time.
4. On the Yandex map, I added layers with raster maps from my favorite Ozik. Leningrad region and Karelia. Karelia is not quite a general staff, but close to that. There is no purposefulness in the manufacture of such cards, I will post as much as possible. To see, you need to click on the "More" button, while in Yandex-cards viewing mode.
5. Enter links from Yandex and Google maps. Let me explain - if you are looking at a map on Google, you can get a link there and insert it on mmaps in order to continue viewing from the same place.
6. Entering coordinates in different formats. Often found on the Internet - a place with such and such coordinates. And how to look? And now everything is simple - you copied the coordinates, entered them on mmaps and that's it :) Coordinates can be in three common options - Degrees, Deg.Min, Deg.Min.Sec
7. If we can enter the coordinates, then why not get them? You can also get the coordinates in three ways. In general, in conjunction with paragraph 6, we got a kind of coordinate converter.
8. You can get some information about the place that we are viewing: current time, date, GMT, sunrise, sunset. This refers to information about a point in the center of the map.
9. A place in the center can be saved as a dot in a file in kml, wpt, gpx formats. Well, this is for those who know why they need it :)
10. Now you can not only share the link in all kinds of social networks, but also insert the cards entirely on your website or blog. Specially adapted page format for display in iframe. You can also copy the code to paste in a couple of clicks.
11. A whole new direction - interesting places on the map. Basically, these are two types of places - just famous places and something interesting that shows up on the maps.
12. Well, I started a blog . However, not only the blog - I also inform about the news on Twitter and through rss . The service has accumulated a lot of opportunities, so I’m trying now to describe each of them in detail on the blog. Something like FAQ is obtained.
13. I almost forgot - rebranded a little. Mmaps used to be decrypted as Many Maps, now I try to specify Multi Maps everywhere. Somehow more harmonious, and the domain name allows.

I will not speak about plans. I’ll mention only one important thing: many ask to connect mail.ru cards, but they don’t have an API. He wrote a request to them, the answer was: “ Unfortunately, there is no public API for the Map of Maps project yet. ” The word “bye” inspires some hope.

And by the way, analyzing google analistic (pun, however), I noticed that there is an opinion - what for it is necessary if there is SAS . Planet ? Surely a similar question will be comments, so I answer right away - I myself like this program, I use it in certain situations. And many thanks to the author for its creation. But there is still a difference between the program and the online service, and not every Windows has it.
