New battery charging technology in 20 seconds

    Batteries, despite the development of the entire hi-tech industry, continue to remain at the level of the 90s. They did not see a major breakthrough to the masses, but the role of these devices is growing and it seems that the release of new products is slightly inhibited. But the news of science is still in price, as is the one about the creation of batteries, which need only 20 seconds to recharge.

    First of all, of course, scientists want to eliminate problems with the reliability and durability of batteries. But the charging speed is very important. A group of scientists has created a new method, it is also applicable to both lithium and nickel batteries.

    Many previous projects have sought only to improve lithium power supplies. Various methods were used for at least some acceleration of the movement of lithium ions in the bowels of a charged battery. But the creators of the new technique proposed less limited access to the electrodes, which would more optimally reduce the battery charge time. Moreover, scientists have replaced lithium vehicles. Now the main material is the chemical compound LiFePO4.

    The principles of the improved method from the University of Illinois suggest that it does not matter how fast the charged ions in the battery rush around. Engineers took the approach by reducing the distance between the ions and the electrode for instant charge transfer. To shorten the distance, which was thus reduced, the researchers added "highly structured cathodes."

    If you look inside the batteries, there will be miniature polystyrene granules. They carry out the “compression” of ions and actually aim them at a shorter distance. Ions, therefore, are located very close to the cathode, which means that a few minutes will be enough for the battery to recharge. Visually, the circuit resembles a microgrid, where the spaces between cells are covered by an electrolyte.

    As a result of the development, we get a nickel-metal hydride battery with the ability to charge 75% in just 2.7 seconds, we reach 90% in 20 seconds . The charging speeds, according to the developers, are not lost even after 100 charging cycles.
