How I turned my "world" 90 °

Once, from nothing to do, one idea occurred to me.
At first it’s crazy - to tilt the laptop about 30 degrees to the right, maybe something will change;) But then, after about twenty minutes, another one came up that radically changed my web experience. Namely: "And what if not at 30, but at all 90." Tobish put it completely on its side. I want to warn you: owners of 30 ″ monitors or 10 ″ netbooks can safely read the next post. Then we turn on the head and remember that, like all brilliant ideas, this one came not to me alone. The screen of the first computer, with a revolutionary (at that time) graphical user interface, was, you guessed it, exactly in height, and not as wide as it is now (the biggest nightmare for me is working with 1366x768 screens, 768 pixels in height is ridiculous , I had so much on the first 14 ″ monitor). So, meet - Xerox Alto .

The same Zirox Alto, from which Stevie Jobs licked the well-known Macintosh.
To begin with, I want to warn that since the main system is Snow Leopard, in the future all the examples will be in the context of this OS. Winders will be able to do absolutely everything by analogy , it will not be difficult for Linuxsoids to fix the necessary xorg configs.
    1) Go to System Preferences, hold Command + Option and click on Display:

Select Rotation 90º and click Confirm.
By default, the screen rotates 90 degrees to the left. For me, as well as for owners of real macbooks, this is more convenient (all ports are on the left)

Getting used to the new environment. Most normal sites are designed for extensions of less than 1000 pixels in length (very important given the popularity of iPads). Turning the screen 90 degrees we absolutely do not lose anything. Firstly, much more text, pictures, information is interposed on the screen, and secondly, it’s more common for the human eye to read text broken into small columns than large text in length.

Finder has literally changed, reading Wikipedia is now a pleasure: You need to get used to the vertical desktop, Dashboard, Expose and Spaces: You can watch two videos at the same time: Now about the cons. Although the Mac OS is known for its sleekness and thoughtfulness, the system is not yet fully prepared for working with vertical displays. ITuns at startup warns immediately:

But despite this, nothing catastrophic happens with the window of this media monster: Some elements of the GUI remain the same Yes, and more space is not always needed in height. For example, for a photo, and movies like that, it’s a kind of sacrilege :) PS I’ve been on Habré for three years now, but just now I decided to write something. Please do not throw tomatoes;) PPS CC-BY-NC-SA PPPS Sorry, this was an early April Fools' joke . We disagree;)
