New from Acer at MWC 2011: a first look

    image
In the Acer pavilion, I find Kim Korshunov in a state of light stupor in front of some booth. I’m coming and looking. 0_o. In front of me is one of the most unusual Android smartphones that has just caught my eye ... By the way, is this a smartphone or such a small tablet? I look around - oh, there are a lot of cool things.

“Something between a smartphone and a tablet, but still closer to a smartphone,” is the first thing that comes to mind when you try to tell something about Acer Iconia Smart. Screen (with LED backlight) - 4.8 '' diagonal. If it were ordinary, widescreen - it would not be a smartphone, but a real shovel. But the Iconia Smart's screen is very widescreen, with an aspect ratio of 21: 9 (1024 pixels on the wide side of the matrix - and how, interestingly, third-party applications will run on such a gadget?) It fits well in the palm of your hand, but apparently will stick out. The case is metal, and unibody - yes, we love it so much. Inside is Snapdragon. There is an HDMI output. Supported by Dolby Mobile. Works on Android 2.3.

Acer's proprietary shell has been redone once again and, this time, reduced to a standard, “android” look - widgets have returned to the standby screens. A pity, I really liked the interface of Acer Stream and liquid mt.

On sale, this miracle will appear almost in April. Nothing is known about the Russian price.

Acer liquid mini was announced at the beginning of this year, but it was in Barcelona that they showed almost the final sample. A very successful format: a small and inexpensive Android smartphone - especially for those who have forked out on a tablet and do not want to buy a smartphone with a large screen for bad money, but they’re not ready to go back to the button “dialer”. Android version is 2.2, the interface is the same as liquid mt. On sale - since March, estimated price - 11 000 rubles.

The seven-inch Acer Iconia Tab A100 tablet for the filling is an exact copy of the CES Iconia Tab A500 announced in January (keywords: NVIDIA Tegra 2, HDMI output, 3G and Wi-Fi support). Only the screen is smaller, but the design is slightly different (the “home” touch button appeared on the front panel). By the way, very good news: both the A100 and A500 will be on sale with the new version of Android - 3.0 Honeycomb (believe it in word - there were tablets with 2.3 on the stands).

And this gadget is for non-conformists, people with exquisite taste. The ten-inch modular tablet PC Iconia Tab W500 on the AMD platform (C-50 Ontario, Radeon HD 6250 and 32 GB SSD-drive) - of course, running Windows 7. The keyboard (by the way, is the most convenient), it’s also a stand, it’s also USB- hub - unfastens; so the laptop turns into a tablet. On Windows 7, Acer pulled a beautiful shell-interface for easy control of your fingers and on the go, but like any shell on top of Windows, you absolutely do not want to use it.

In general, do the same for me, but a little thinner with Android 3.0.

And this laptop - Acer Iconia - was announced, it seems, last year, but we didn’t come across it “alive”.

The thing, of course, is surprisingly meaningless, but very funny. Also for people with exquisite taste. There is no keyboard, but a touch screen instead. You can bring to it, of course, anything: at least a keyboard, at least a multimedia gallery, at least a Twiter and Facebook feed.
