Powertrekk - portable fuel cell for mobile devices

Currently, more and more original devices are appearing on the charger market. Wireless chargers are no longer surprising. Hydrogen fuel cells are also gradually occupying their niche. The other day, the Powertrekk portable fuel cell was introduced, which is a really very interesting charger. Powertrekk consists of two functional elements: in fact, a fuel cell and a fairly capacious 1600 mA battery. Thus, at any time, the device is ready for use, allowing you to connect devices that require charging via USB.

The fuel cell includes a vessel with sodium silicide to produce hydrogen, which then recombines with oxygen in a proton exchange membrane, producing a current of 1000 mA. By the way, the container with sodium silicide is replaceable, although it is not yet clear how much the replacement of the tank costs. The solution implemented in Powertrekk is quite successful, since the user does not need to carry a container with pure hydrogen. In addition, the device’s battery is constantly charged, since the electricity production process is continuous (provided that the chamber with sodium silicide is wetted with water).

In general, the manufacturers of this device just come up with a slogan like “Powertrekk - just add water!” (Remember this slogan from an old instant drink advertisement?). According to the manufacturer, the charger is able to charge the batteries of mobile devices, GPS-navigators, cameras and other equipment. It is a pity that laptop batteries will not work.

In the creation of the device was directly involved Chinesethe Swedish company myFC, which has been developing various types of fuel cells for quite some time. PowerTrekk is the first commercial device designed for mass consumption, released by this company. According to the developers, the chemical processes occurring in the fuel cell are safe and environmentally friendly. The only byproduct is water vapor.

It is a pity, while neither the price of the device nor the date of its appearance on the market is unknown. Well, at least this is not a concept, but a really working device.
