Odeon TPC-10 Atomic Tablet, Part One

There will be two, maybe three parts. The first (current) - introduction, about how I got to such a life, in the second I will describe the impressions of the device. In the third, I plan to describe some specific software solutions, if any appear.

In this part there will be a multi-bookcase and few pictures. :)

I wanted a tablet for myself for a long time, but I still can’t choose it. There are not so many options, in principle - an apple ipad, something android, a transformer netbook or a tablet on an x86-compatible processor (the same netbook, only with a torn keyboard).

First of all, I needed a tablet for comfortable reading of djvu. Secondly - pdf, cbr and cbz. Well, in the third - for browsing from the couch. With the second and third paragraph, in principle, any tablet can cope with no problems, so the first one became decisive. Only devices of about 10 "diagonal were considered, although occasionally looked at 7" - but still did not understand why these overgrown communicators were needed.

ipad djvu reads either with conversion to pdf, or using iphone's programs. Both options did not suit me. Transcoding is a big investment of time and quite a lot of swelling of files; iphone's wax software is a terrible image quality.

Android tablets- the question is quite voluminous. For starters - all cheap Chinese devices have disappeared. Very uneven build quality, resistive screen, old versions of android ... More decent models (modern android, capacitive screen) have disappeared for another reason - there is only one program (vudroid) for reading djvu and it differs by increased durability, and it’s different from the file size not very dependent.

Transformer Netbooks- The option would be very tempting. But after I threw out the netbooks on the atom from consideration (for the transformer was supposed to be my main laptop), the choice was reduced to acer'a 1425 or 1825. Both netbooks are very good, in my opinion (I have acer 1410), but they the main disadvantage is the weight of 1.8 kg. The usual, non-transformer version of the netbook weighs one and a half kilograms and personally, I consider this the maximum weight for my laptop.

Therefore, in the end, I settled on tablets with x86-compatible processors - there are no problems with software for viewing the files I need, quite decent weight, normal screen size ... Since the tablet was not considered the main laptop, processor weakness and lack of hardware accelerated video playback I told him I forgive you.

I thought of ordering from the Chinese, but there such tablets are in the region of 500 bucks. The difference from the Russian price is not global, but all sorts of disadvantages are added such as the lack of a guarantee, delivery by mail, etc. Therefore, I decided to look at what our stores offer.

And they offer Viewsonic Viewpad 10, Odeon TPC-10 and iRos PD10, which, in fact, are one and the same device, slightly different characteristics (and place of sale). I did not find the last one on sale, but I met the first two.

Viewpad 10 at the moment is an exclusive Svyaznoy, inside it has an atom of 1,6Ghz, an SSD of 16 gigabytes and two operating systems - Windows 7 HP and Android 1.6. Unfortunately, I don’t know the equipment (they write that it’s practically naked).

Odeon TPC-10- we can say that the MTS exclusive (yet?) Differs from the viewpad by the processor - 1.8Ghz, a large SSD volume - 32Gb and the lack of an android. Included are a tablet, an adapter from miniDSUB to DSUB, a case (just a bag).

There is no GSM module either there or there, although there is a place for a SIM card.

Considering that they both cost the same, but the second has the best features and equipment, I chose the Odeon TPC-10.

Impressions, pictures, etc. read in continuation . Which is not yet available. :) Which is already there.
If you have any questions, suggestions for tests or some poses in which you want to see the tablet in pictures - write.

PS. Yes, to claims that I supposedly didn’t use <insert_ device_name>, but scolded. In the selection processes, the ipad and various oriental tablets (starting from the Chinese Stobax and ending with the galaxy tab) and the same transformers were not just felt ... So the choice was meaningful, from my own experience, and not just from pictures on the Internet. :)
