Google extended the 2011 campaign for free calls to the United States and Canada through the Google Talk Plugin in the Gmail interface.
Google Voice is much more convenient than Skype, because the web application does not need to be run as a separate program - it is already constantly running in a browser tab with open Gmail. The quality of communication with American subscribers is excellent.
Google officials have unofficially stated that they can leave calls to the United States and Canada free forever if the revenue from paid international calls covers the cost.
