Meizu M9: top-end Android smartphone for $ 375

Some two years ago, no one took Meizu seriously. “The next upstarts who want to create a new oPhone / SkyPhone?” Skeptics grumbled. However, in February 2009, the Meizu M8 was released, the device which surpassed the iPhone 3G in technical specifications, and could only be compared with HTC in the degree of modification of Windows CE / Mobile. The user interface for the Meizu M8 was developed by EICO Design, which had a hand in creating TouchFLO 3D.

The disadvantages of the M8 were obvious: the lack of a good base of high-quality applications, the instability of the firmware, the complete lack of GPS. However, time does not stand still and on December 25 this year, a new smartphone of the Meizu M9 company comes out.

Meizu M9, like the Galaxy S series smartphones, is based on the Samsung-Intrinsity S5PC110 System-On-Chip. This SoC includes a 1 GHz Cortex-A8 architecture Hummingbird CPU, hi-end PowerVR SGX 540 GPU, NEON SIMD FPU, 512 KB L2 cache.

One of the key features of the new product is a 3.5 "display with a resolution of 960x640 pixels, which is rumored to be made by Sharp using AVS technology (comparison with iPhone 4 is available here ). In addition, the smartphone boasts a 5 MPx camera with the ability to record 720P HD video, 1370 mAh batteries, 8/16 GB microSD card, which will be bundled with support for a huge number of various sound and video formats. The amount of RAM and ROM is not reported.

Judging by the texture, the back surface is made of soft-touch plastic and is somewhat similar to the HTC HD mini. The smartphone may seem thick, but in fact it has a fairly modest dimensions of 59.8 × 113.0 × 11.2 mm.

Meizu M9 is running Android 2.2 with a customized interface.

The cost of the Meizu M9 in the local market is about 2500RMB, or $ 375. Meizu has no plans to expand to the international market, so everyone can buy the phone only thanks to eBay (the predicted price is $ 400- $ 450).

According to the technical characteristics, the M9 can seriously compete with the glossy Galaxy S, Nexus S, as well as HTC Desire. The benefit of the performance of the S5PC110 is enough for a year in advance, the Tegra 2 tests only confirm this.

Supported video formats: AVI, MP4, 3GP, MOV, MKV, FLV.
Supported audio formats: FLAC, APE, MP3, OGG, AMR, AAC.
