From brick to iPhone. Unlock 3G and 3Gs with the latest version of the modem

It just so happened that my 3G was successfully turned into a brick when I upgraded it to version 4.1 without upgrading the modem. Naturally, something went wrong and the modem successfully upgraded to version 5.14.2. And this meant that he had turned from a phone at best into an iPod for an indefinite period.

And now, just yesterday, the Dev-Team pleased us with good news - they release unlock for 3G and 3Gs phones with modems after 5.13.04!

But is everything all right? We read under the cut.

Each time, hacking methods are becoming more sophisticated and more dangerous for iPhone owners. That is probably the way it should be. So this time the Dev-Team got the hang of it and unlocked it.

Let's get it right.

According to Dev-Team, the iPad uses the exact same modem as on an iPhone. And their experiment proved it. For about two weeks, they used firmware 6.15.00 for the iPad on their iPhones and there were no problems.

But now the most interesting thing is that if you install the modem firmware for your iPad, then you will never be able to use the official firmware of Apple, but only custom firmware. In my opinion, this is not very scary, but before you start unlock, you must be aware of this.

Dev-Team also mentions a few comments for owners of 3Gs. If you have an old bootrom, then you should wait for the official updated version of the software from Dev-Team. Find out which bootrom you have here .

So again. Important:

Attention! The current unlock method is fully compatible only with iPhone 3G on any firmware and with iPhone 3Gs with a new bootrom and firmware 4.1. Once again: iPhone 3Gs on the old bootrom with firmware 4.2 are NOT supported at the moment. Dev-Team recommend waiting for an updated version of another software, Redsn0w, where support for all 3Gs on the latest iOS will be added.

Next, I began to study the comments. Of all the problems that I read there, 2 were serious:
1. The problem with GPS. Dev-Team is now dealing with this problem and promises to release a fix soon.
2. 3Gs battery problem. With the new firmware, the battery charge ends much faster. Again, fix promise.

Installation was pretty quick and without incidents. Everything worked, the modem was updated, there are no problems. The only thing is, try to read what redsn0w tells you during installation, because they paint every moment and warn about everything everywhere.

Well, after installing redsn0w, you just need to go into cydia and search for ultrasn0w. Installation will take a minute, then the phone will be asked to reboot, which you will do. That's it, insert the SIM card and enjoy life.
