250 megawatt solar power plant to be built in California

The authors of the project, NRG Solar and SunPower, call their future creation a “solar installation,” not a power plant. In any case, the power of this installation-station is 250 megawatts, which is a very significant indicator for such systems. The project is the largest in the United States, it is indeed the largest solar power plant in this country. 450 million US dollars were allocated for the creation of the power plant, 4 years were allotted for the implementation of the project.

Named California Valley Solar Ranch, SunPower is the main supplier of solar cells. The panels will be placed in a place with maximum insolation, and such a place has already been found. The partners have already agreed on who will do what: SunPower will build and manage the station, and NRG Solar, as the main investor, will own all the assets.

The productivity of this structure, according to project managers, will be 550 megawatt hours per year. Such productivity, so to speak, is enough to provide energy to 50 thousand medium-sized households in the United States. Currently, it is California that is the most attractive place for the creators of solar power plants. In addition, some privileges for the “producers” of electricity from solar energy are set in this state.

The California Valley Solar Ranch project has already received government support, including a promise to provide investment if necessary. The project received support because it involved the manufacturer of efficient solar panels with high efficiency, the company SunPower, which was able to prove the advantage of its panels over any others.

Be that as it may, the implementation of such a large project cannot but cause respect - in any of the CIS countries such a power plant will obviously not appear soon enough. It would certainly be nice if such stations appeared, but this is unlikely to happen in the next few years. It is a pity of course, but most likely this is precisely so.
