Caring computer chair

The choice of a new computer chair for me began with the fact that the trouble happened with the previous one - a large crack appeared in the cross of the leg, due to which the pneumatic cartridge crunched to the floor and jammed, decently scratching the entire laminate.

    image

As for the laminate, they quickly reassured me - it turns out that there were cases when the pneumatic cartridge came out through the top, making the owner painless until the death)    Maybe everything can be restored (by replacing the crosspiece, although the guarantee has already expired; although not the fact that it was at all) but I didn’t want to tinker with this for three reasons: 1 . The chair is very large and in my “ office ” I was pretty tormented with it. 2

    image      image

. The chair is leather, which is why it was simply impossible to sit in it in the 40-degree heat.
3 . There is another workplace in the apartment, for which there is really nothing to sit on - the stool doesn’t count) There is a carpet, so a broken crosspiece will ride more or less - maybe someday the chair will be there, because it is, in fact, not bad .

The search began with “casting a fishing rod” on Twitter - to the question “ Tell me a good office chair?” "Many gave a link to Herman Miller , but after the tweet" What do you think about this chair from Herman Miller? " everything became clear to me, despite the fact that opinions were divided. Some said it was “ BMW among the seats ”, others - “Burum, you're crazy, look at the price tag! ". Well, I asked myself a question, began to search - once again I realized that even with such well-known armchairs on the Internet, there is practically nothing but delicious marketing press releases. But in general, the reviews are extremely positive, even someone who knows herself sits on the legendary Aeron) Not that I would become a victim of marketing, or my back would suddenly fall ill - it’s just that HM really inspired me from the first minutes.

The question was finally resolved when I arrived at the office of Contract Interiors , specializing in these chairs as well. A spacious office, lack of people - which is probably why the whole service fell on me) They all told and showed, and I leisurely sat and compared everywhere. AeronOf course, cool, but after a painfully long election, I settled on the Embody model . I went twice — the second time I already took the chair, having made a couple of shots with other models at the same time — I don’t exclude the possibility that in one of the digests I will return to the subject of the chairs.

Usually in reviews I use photographs of newly unpacked devices, as long as they have a “photogenic look” - without dust, fingerprints, stains, etc. But in this case, I initially somehow did not plan the article, because the topic of computer chairs ... well, I don’t know ... On the other hand, judging by how vividly discussing various computer accessories (which, by analogy, no one writes anywhere else), I still decided. So I am writing a review after a week of active fidgeting in a chair, respectively, and pictures of "live" from home, although such an oversized picture is just right to photograph in the studio. So that the post doesn’t become too heavy, I hid some pictures in clickable previews - click on them and pay attention to the quality of the chair, to the assembly and other small details.

    Appearance

The Herman Miller Embody chair owes its appearance to two people - Jeff Weber and Bill Stumpf . The symbiosis of a young practitioner and a wise theorist was the office chair of increased comfort - it contains all the conceivable and inconceivable adjustments that “chairs from Ikea” did not even dream of. But in addition to all sorts of adjustments, much is laid down in the design itself - which is what the anatomical back and seat with an even distribution of pressure stand for, repeating the natural bends of a person and not preventing blood circulation. Well, all right, this is all from the press releases)

If you look at the chair from the front, it may seem like “another” office chair, unremarkable.    “ Fi, it's not even leather!

    image      image

"- someone answered me on Twitter) But such statements now cause me, perhaps, a smile - after the past summer I will not return to a leather armchair for any carriages. Everything is “simpler" here - ordinary fabric upholstery, dark plastic ... but the devil, as they say, is in the details. I will not talk about the customize capabilities of the chair for now, but just give a small photo excursion in appearance.

Making an order on the manufacturer’s website, you can select the necessary parameters in the online configurator- All changes will be visible on the interactive chair model. Almost everything is tuned - wheels (for carpets or for solid type of laminate), a cross (polished or “graphite” aluminum) and the base itself, type and color of fabric. There are a lot of colors, but better than black and gray, in my opinion, there is nothing better in this world.    There are two types of fabric - Rhythm and Balance.    The second one looks more practical, but the first one is cheaper - it is a fabric with a deep porous structure, very pleasant with tactile contact. There are no fibers and puffs, and dust is cleaned with a normal damp cloth.    The armrests in my case are made of vinyl and there are no other options in Embody. And in the case of Aeron there is a leather option.

Below the seat, behind a plastic protective case, is a mechanism for adjusting the degree of back support by the back itself. And also a certain special structure, apparently responsible for the shape of the seat:

    image

Everything that is on the back side is somewhat reminiscent of a character from the movie “Predator” - on a curved relief there is a huge amount of some protrusions and tubes with suction cups.

    image

As a result, a complex framework is formed - it is difficult to believe that all this is somehow interconnected and amenable to adjustment. Despite this, the back is rather thin.

    image      image

The weight is quite large - apparently due to the large number of metal parts. But the dimensions are average - more than conventional entry-level seats, but less than cumbersome solutions for "managers". Before that, I had a large leather armchair that could barely fit on my balcony (in width), which caused me a lot of inconvenience. Now I can quite turn around :)

I sat down and sit ...

You understand the difference with ordinary chairs when you sit down. The seat itself bends, repeating the shape of the legs and, ahem, zops) But at the same time, this coating is very elastic. You can sit as you like - there is no deformation on the chair, it will remain so all the time without the “memory effect” and according to the manufacturer.

If you sit down correctly and completely, then you understand what was said in the paragraph about bending the back - the back really repeats it. Moreover, the degree of bending (Backfit back support technology) of the back is regulated in a rather wide range - thanks to the multiple inserts on the back of the seat, changes occur not only in the lumbar, but also in the thoracic spine.

    image

And for this, just twist the knob on the right side. Most of all I liked the most rigid (in the lumbar) support.

    image

Sitting down, you can adjust the height of the chair to a comfortable level. I don’t like when the legs “hang”, but I hate it even more when there is no place for them under the armchair - I have to stretch somewhere to the subwoofer :) Therefore, I usually choose a seat height equal to the height of the lower leg (from the knee to the heel). The height is adjusted by a small translucent joystick, on the same principle as in ordinary chairs.

    image

But if you turn the handle in which this joystick is installed, then there will be another adjustment - the pressure on the back. About 30 turns of the handle are available - on this range, anyone will find effort convenient for himself. Starting from the almost complete inability to swing (when the back resiliently returns the owner to a vertical sitting position), ending with the opportunity to "lie down" even with a little effort. I chose the middle ground - when the back allows you to easily deviate, but while maintaining the body in balance for any degree of deviation.

On the left side there is a special 4-position handle, which controls the degree of back deflection (extreme)) - either a full deflection, or 2 positions in the range, or the back does not recline at all.

    image

The next step is to adjust the height and width of the armrests. The height changes (~ 15cm) with the button clamped under the armrest, independently for each. Each armrest is adjustable in width, for which there are 4 positions. I easily fit in the narrowest gap between the armrests, although the widest is suitable for people of any size) Nevertheless, you need to choose a chair based on your own height and weight - there is even a special table for Aeron .

    image

In conclusion, you can adjust the "depth" of the seat - the part that is located directly under the bend of the knees. If you take the handles protruding on the sides of the seat at the same time, you can move the "edge" of the seat forward or back. I did as much as possible forward.

In general, as you can see, almost everything is regulated and for all manipulations you do not need to get up from the chair (unless, to lift it up). This in theory is beautifully written about the anatomical bends and some favorable effects there on blood circulation, but, surprisingly, in practice everything is only repeated. Sitting, swinging, fidgeting ... sheer pleasure! I will not judge about blood circulation - I’m only sitting for a week and it’s too early to draw any conclusions, if I can do them at all. But the fact that perseverance in the chair has increased and there is no discomfort throughout the day is an important indicator for me. Without any self-hypnosis, it’s really very comfortable to sit, the care and thoughtfulness of the chair is felt even in the smallest details. It is very difficult to convey all this - it is better to try it personally 1 time.

    image

If you compare Embody with the legendary Aeron model, the latter is slightly less high-tech. But it also has its advantages - another backrest (wide and with the ability to hang a jacket on it there) and the shape of the armrests, another upholstery material. There is no way to adjust the armrests in width - they simply rotate in a horizontal plane at a small angle. But there is an amazing mechanism for supporting the sacral and lumbar regions - in my opinion, more advanced than in the chair from the review. So Embody is, nevertheless, more an office option for constant movement than for home vegetables)

    image Pros and cons

         +Unusual appearance
+High-quality and practical materials, good assembly
+Changing the height of the armrests and the distance between them
+Adjusting the inclined spring for a comfortable "swing"
+Adjusting the height and depth of the seat and the degree of bending of the backrest,
+No "memory" effect on the upholstery
         +12 years warranty
         -No headrest Price Space
         - price

Price , I don’t even want to voice it)

    The end

Someone buys Kirby vacuum cleaners at the price of Lada, someone expensive pseudo-elite tsatski, but in the case of Herman Miller there is no divorce - the price is due to quality, and quality things have never been cheap. Moreover, the manufacturer gives the product as much as 12 (!) Years of warranty - such a figure can only be with complete confidence in their products. How many seats will you change over these 12 years? I, in a little less time, changed about 7 seats, but none of them sat so cool. Yes, and if you hang around all day on the screen, then the health issue simply cannot be ignored.

The lack of a headrest makes me sad, but at the same time it hints that it’s better to lie in a different place, and it would be nice to work on an office chair) Otherwise, everyone liked HM Embody - I don’t even know what to complain about. Well, perhaps, I don’t like the junction between the back and the seat - as in the previous chair, dust and all kinds of crumbs will clog there.

    image

As the father of the little ugliness, the whole fabric upholstery also causes aesthetic concerns - it will be difficult to clean something out of such a porous structure; in this regard, the wicker "mesh" of Aeron, and now it seems to me more practical.

Armchairs are sold assembled, so if you pick it up, keep that in mind. And more. Upon purchase, they gave me a cumulative discount card, which in the near future, apparently, I will not need. If someone wants to buy a chair from HM with a slight discount (so far this is 3%, after five chairs there will be 5%), you can use the letters from the card.

    image

imageIn general, really cool chairs - if you have money, then you definitely will not regret it. I advise with a clear conscience.

    Good luck!
