The 2010 MidYear Trend and Risk Report, prepared by the IBM X-Force information security research and development group, reports unpleasant news:
since February 2010, the .ru domain is in first place in terms of the amount of inappropriate content registered on it, overtaking such domains, like .com, .net, .cn (China) and .info. Thus, according to the study, a typical spam message is sent from a computer physically located in the USA, India or Brazil, has a URL on the .ru domain, and its hosting is located in China. The geography of spam mailing sources is as follows: USA (9.7%), Brazil (8.4%), India (8.1%), Russia (5.3%), Vietnam (4.6%).
