First release of the game 0 AD

August 16, the first alpha release of the open source game 0 AD Alpha 1 Argonaut was released. Binaries are available for Windows, Linux, and OS X. The game is an RTS on the theme of the ancient war (500 BC - 500 AD). According to the authors, this is the first version of the game in 9 years of development that you can already play. True, at the moment only a multiplayer game is implemented.

    New in the game:
    1. Maps : Added new Arcadia and Hellenized Egypt maps, improved Multiplayer demo map, added test description for maps.
    2. AI : Added AI animals - now they run away when there is a danger. Redone AI units - added queues of orders, auto-attack, etc.
    3. GUI : Added in-game chat, fixed work on widescreen resolutions and many other minor changes.
    4. Graphics : Floating decorative objects, the destruction of buildings and the decay of corpses have been added.
    5. Installation and compatibility : Added installer for Windows and packages for major Linux distributions. Improved compatibility in the absence of 3D acceleration. Improved compatibility with FHS when installed on Linux.
    6. Other : Added a surface smoothing tool to the map editor, added sound effects, improved performance, and fixed bugs.

    What is missing:
    • The conditions for victory are not implemented
    • Computer opponents do not have AI - in single-player mode, enemies do nothing.
    • No random card generation
    • The Fog of War has not yet been implemented.
    • The parameters of many units are still unbalanced.
    • Many planned features have not yet been added: no research, pumping units, settlements, etc.
    • Many bugs and missing features.
    • There is no service for multiplayer games - you have to connect by IP address.
As usual, the project needs volunteers for development.
