Sony Media Go: monstrous, even at the installation stage

    About a year has passed since the advent of the iTunes-like application from Sony. It is recommended to users no more than software for managing psp and a client for the PlayStation Store.
    There are few requirements for the application, it gives too much and more ... it is monstrous, has good system requirements for software, and works only under certain operating systems (you guessed what), after observing a number of conditions.
    In principle, everything is said.
    But I will try to give a little explanation.

    Let's start

    It is logical that such a beast, under no pretext, will not start not under the Windows , do not even try. This is proved even by installation under them - I specially took the parent netbook, clamped the down arrow and in the rough chose windows xp covered in dust. Wai-Wai disconnected, uploaded the installer to an external hard drive and it started ... the installation took about 40 minutes.

    System Requirements of One Windows Are Not Limited

    The distribution of this division weighs 90+ meters, while:
    1. Installs Visual C ++ 2006 Redistributable
    2. Installs Visual C ++ 2008 (or 2009, I don’t remember anymore) Redistributable
    3. Trying to download and install WMF (windows media formats chtoli ...), you have to download (it will not start without it) - +12 meters to the distribution
    4. Similarly with .net framework 2.0 (+ 23 meters) - you have to download and install, plus when choosing a non-English locale - it requires a .net framework localization package (+2 meters, you can put English and switch the language to Russian in Media Go itself)
    5. It requires QuickTime - (I don’t know how much it weighs), took iTunes from the disk that came with the iPod and delivered it to the machine
    6. Puts Flash

    What do we get?

    As a result, we get such a iTunes from sony.

    What the user would like

    Everything would be fine, but I and many users just need a pc application that:
    • Lets go on the ps-store and make purchases in it
    • Allows you to copy the save and games from psp to the computer and vice versa. (yes, you can be like pens on fs)
    • Allows you to download from the ps-store. With the ability to pause downloads. There is no such thing on psp, and downloading something big from the store “in one sitting” is simply not possible for some (for example, I have unlimited at night for 7 hours at a real speed of ~ 50 kilobytes / sec).
    • Will be cross-platform

    Alternative

    Well, or open the web version and give cross-platform software to download your drm-content (for which I still paid money) to the device.
    By the way, before the advent of the "native" ps-store for psp, a web version of store was available. There it was possible to download encoded content and, using a separate utility (which, by the way, is installed with media go during installation), upload it to the device.
    This utility was and is purely Windows; its “page” is still on the psn usa website.

    Question to me, users and Sony

    Why make monsters when you can make a normal, lightweight application that performs a certain set of actions necessary for users?

    Probably only Sony knows ....
