FireFox - One profile for different OS

So, let's say, all the same, I dealt with the issue of synchronizing data and programs for Windows - I carry the software (mainly crafts from PortableApps ) on a flash drive ... It wouldn’t be a hassle for a woman - a woman bought a pig. Of course, I’m not a woman, but I left my home machine without Windows and completely switched to living under Linux Gentoo.

The first problem of the switcher is the search for familiar software for the new platform. In my case, there were practically no difficulties - KeePass cross-platform applications for storing passwords and FireFox with Thunderbird were first installed from the ports.

It should be noted that I could not completely abandon Windows, because I simply have to work in Photoshop and you won’t get anything done. Even Gimp is not an alternative at all. So on my old working computer Windows, Photoshop is still installed and the Windows flash drive is launched. How to synchronize the base of these programs? At first I tried to copy user profiles from a USB flash drive when mounting the device and back to the USB flash drive when unmounting it. It seems to be good for everyone, but only sometimes you stupidly forget to mount or unmount a USB flash drive, and when synchronized in a similar way, it is fraught with data loss. As it turned out, there is a more elegant, but less trivial solution.

    So:
    1. We determine where the general profile will be stored. In my case, this is a flash drive, in the case of using two OSs on the same computer, it should be a directory on the FAT partition. Why FAT, I think, is understandable. Just in case, access to the FAT partition under Linux is quite simple, but to get access to the ext / reiserfs partition from under Windows, you will need additional gestures.

    2. Copy the folder with the active profile to the selected directory. By default, on Windows, profile folders can be found at C: / Documents and Settings / user / Application Data / Mozilla / Firefox / Profiles / xxxxxxxx.default, and on Linux - /home/username/.mozilla/firefox/

    3. Launch FireFox with a special parameter. On Windows, Win + R firefox.exe -profilemanager On Linux, firefox -profilemanager.

    4. Select the option to create a profile, in the window that appears, indicate its name. Leading dog breeders recommend calling the default user profile, I did not heed the recommendations and heavenly punishment did not comprehend me ...

    5. Click * Choose folder * and specify the path to the directory with the profile created in step 2. Finish.

That's all. Users of Portable versions - do not rush to delete the old profile! Personally, I could not start PortableFirefox with the required parameter, so on Linux I indicated the path directly to the USB flash drive in / FirefoxPortable / Data / profile /

By the way, all this is also true for Thunderbird, of course.
