USA: Every 10th child gamer obsessed with video games

Approximately 10% of US residents aged 8 to 18 playing video games are addicted to this type of entertainment, Harris Interactive found out in a survey of 1,100 young Americans and their loved ones. Researchers have found that drunken gamers go to school worse and are more likely to be distracted and have problems communicating with their families, says Douglas Gentile, director of the University of Iowa’s Media Research Laboratory. Most drunken gamers use game consoles and spend an average of 24.5 hours a week behind them.

The games are quite popular among American youth: a quarter of those surveyed admitted to their addictions to video games, 44% said they know those who are addicted to their friends, and 80% play at least once a month.
