New Skype for iPhone with multitasking and abandonment of plans to introduce a fee for 3G calls
Skype has released an update to its iPhone app. The new version supports multi-tasking: this means that users can receive Skype calls while they are working with other applications, or when the iPhone is locked (and lies in your pocket, for example). And during the conversation it will be possible to switch back to another application - for example, to clarify what is going to the movies, or to watch something in the mail. In addition, the sound quality was improved, and the graphics of the interface were updated to take full advantage of the resolution of the Retina Display screen on the iPhone 4.
You can download the application in the iTunes AppStore .
Skype believes that higher quality calls and the convenience of working with the application (due to multitasking and the ability to call via 3G connection) lead to people calling more often and talking longer . In addition, the entire mobile communications industry is undergoing profound changes, for example, operators are beginning to introduce differentiated models for charging traffic.
In the light of all these changes, Skype decided to abandon its previously announced plans to introduce an additional charge for calls via 3G.
Multitasking is supported in iOS 4 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, or 3rd generation iPod touch (32GB and 64GB of late 2009)
