HTC Desire - transition from WM to Android
Somehow unexpectedly got HTC Desire, now I'm trying to move to it with HTC Max 4G. If anyone is too lazy to read, then I will immediately write the conclusion: the device itself is very nice, the OS is decent and promising, though without a normal stylus (to me personally) it’s bad. But there are still problems with application software, in some places you have to shaman. Although, as a result, more or less tolerant replacements for the used software were found.
After buying Desire, it turned out that there were only free applications in the market, and paid ones should either try to download from the developers' websites or get hacked ones. Therefore, I had to take care of getting the root - just for the sake of access to the paid market (although in the end a couple more pleasant pluses were added, such as the ability to make a complete dump of the phone’s memory or turn off ads in applications). The native firmware with the root did not normally stand up, I requested Pays-ROM . The choice, of course, is not the right one, for the good it was worth taking MoDaCo- It is closer to the original, but Pays-ROM downloaded earlier. :) A few days after I installed the firmware, the official 2.2 was released. I wandered around for a long time in thought to set or not, then I saw sensible whatsnew, read and decided. At first I tried Pays-ROM based on 2.2, but didn’t like it, rolled back. And the option from MoDaCo (r7) completely suited me - based on the original 2.2, some unnecessary programs were removed, a root was added. And that’s all. Hundreds of additional programs are not installed - then I will add it myself.
I like Google’s relationship with programs that require root - they are present in the market on a common basis. Also in the market itself there is a very convenient feature - money back for programs during the day. In the Apple store, she is sorely lacking.
Tasks:
1. Reading fb2, fb2.zip, txt, html, doc directly from the file system. In WM, alreader handled this . I have not yet found any sensible substitutions. Now there are three pieces.
fbreader does not read txt, doc and html, does not work directly with the file system, but scans the flash drive for supported files. But reads fb2.
ireader (free) for a long time opens large html-files, does not store them in history, does not remember the position. There are no normal hyphens - Russian spells, English - just strange. Problems defining cp1251 - considers it to be different versions of unicode. Sometimes crashes. Buying paid does not make much sense, except that you need DRM support.
conreaderreads only txt, and spells Russian and English, works faster than ireader, until it crashes. But the file open dialog is inconvenient, there is no text search.
So for now, all that remains is to switch between different readers and hope that Alan does port alreader - he said, "I can promise to carry out such a port during 2010 if I have a device . " They bought a device for him, now we are waiting for the end of the year. :)
2. File manager. In WM, I used Resco Explorer. Then I liked the EStrongs File Explorer . Many advised ASTRO File Manager , but this scrollable strip of buttons with buttons seemed very uncomfortable. To unpack the archives, AndroZip was installed(although you can use it as a file manager).
3. The calculator. In WM - igcalc . A minimum is needed - large buttons, two lines (in one expression that can be edited, in the second result), percent, memory. But all this can not be found in one calculator yet. Either the buttons are small, or there is no percent, or memory ... I looked at a dozen or two, so far I have stopped at RealCalc (there is everything except two lines).
4. Navigation. I mainly use Yandex.cards(I do not need car navigation). Everything is fine here, in terms of functionality it is not inferior to the version for WM, it is much faster in terms of speed (I did not try to run the cards on HD2, then I don’t know if the processor has such speed or the android). For raster maps I use Yozi , which understands maps in Ozi formats. The functionality is minimal, but enough for me.
5. The program for notes and reminders. In WM there was apmemo - I typed the text with a stylus, set the reminder time in two clicks. I haven’t found anything interesting yet. The lack of a stylus is okay, but in all the programs that I tried, too many gestures must be done to create a note and set a reminder. I would like it to be able to immediately enter the text of the note at startup, rather than clicking "menu - create note".
6. Bejeweled2 - unfortunately, I did not find it. There are first bejeweled, there are all kinds of jewels, but there is no joy from them. :) Put Jewellust , it cost its 3 bucks, but it ended too quickly. Now, as a Bejeweled2, Sweep is moonlighting . :)
7. Atomic cannon is a great implementation of Scorched earth for WM. I found barrage and goobers vs boogers, but both games look pale, and the graphics and controls are so-so. There is also Armored Strike Online, but it is online, which is not always convenient. Although recently ran the news that soon Angry birds on the android will be. I'm waiting.
8. View and edit unpretentious Excel files. Documents to go. $ 15, free version - view only. At the same time, another part of the first paragraph is being solved - viewing the doc.
9. ICQ. IM + , but maybe I’ll pay somehow. It seemed pretty Meego, but there are constantly crawling advertising messages from AOL at the entrance annoyed. They strongly advised Fring, but his interface is too clumsy, in my opinion.
10. Metro map of Moscow and St. Petersburg. It was yandex.metro. There are Ru.Metro and aMetro to choose from . The first is put from the market, the second is put from the w3bsit3-dns.com forum, the cards are then loaded separately. He stopped at aMetro, satisfied, although I would like to finish something on the little things.
11. Remote control.
RDP and VNC - Wyse PocketCloud. While beta, until August 31 is free, but when it becomes paid - I will pay, a convenient program.
SSH - not yet picked up. ConnectBot does not accept long keystrokes, enters both characters (I want to enter “-”, press and hold “n”, and in the end I get “n-. If anyone knows how to win, I will say thanks.
13. Any kind of multimedia.
View images . Justpictures .
For music (yet) lack of native player, a movie I'm on the phone do not look.
The cons: reader, reminders, ssh-client, a stylus.
In the pros: the browser (although it was necessary to put the Dolphin browser HD ), the overall speed of devaysa For these two points, I am ready to endure the cons and wait for their elimination.
