HTC Incredible (Verizon)
Well, I’ll try again to write a review of a toy I recently accidentally got. The first review was more written on emotions, which eventually resulted in a well-deserved merger. I'll try to fix it. :)
Over the past 8 months I have had the opportunity to use three phone models: HTC Hero, HTC Droid Eris and Motorola Droid, so I will compare with them.

On ebay: $ 475-510
Retail in Ukraine: estimated cost from $ 570 and above
Dimensions: 117.5 x 58.5 x 11.9mm
Weight: 130 grams
Processor: Qualcomm QSD8650 Snapdragon with a frequency of 1 GHz
Base operating system: Android OS 2.1 with HTC Sense
RAM: 512 MB
Internal memory: 8 GB
Display: AMOLED 3.7 "with a resolution of 480x800 WVGA
Network: CDMA2000 , 1xRTT / 1xEVDO / 1xEVDO rev. A
Peripherals: GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 with FTP / OPP, Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / (n?), 3.5mm stereo jack, micro-USB
Camera: 8 megapixels, autofocus, flash
Memory cards : microSD with support for the format (SD2.0), cards up to 32GB are supported
.
As far as I understand, the times of cool configurations for CDMA-phones ended on HTC Touch Pro. In a very small box were found: the device itself, a usb-cord, a battery, charging and 4 books of "waste paper". There wasn’t even a 2GB memory card that was in the HTC Hero, not to mention the 16GB card that came with the Motorola Droid. Although, in fact, this is offset by 8GB of internal memory. After some time, it appeared on the phone screen that there is also a pasted protective film, very convenient, thanks.

After Moto Droid-a, the phone went very nicely. The absence of 40 extra grams in weight is very sensitive. By the position in the hand it feels as if the phone is a little curved. The housing is very well fitted, no shifts, gaps, etc.

To the touch, the material of the back cover is similar to rubberized plastic, very pleasant. The front part is like a very hard plastic, but I won’t say it is not a specialist, so if anyone knows, please correct.

Having removed the back cover, I do not want to return it to its place. The inside is very bright red. To change the memory card, disconnecting the phone and removing the battery is not necessary, and I consider it vicious to hide the memory card, although I understand that this is required for hamsters.

A bit of tar. No matter how beautiful it all looked, the case seems unreliable. Very much I’m not sure that at the very first light fall on a hard surface - the back will fly apart, too thin and delicate. Check the time. The second spoon is the location of microUSB. When the device is charging, the cord interferes with the normal position in the hand.

Simply indescribable. 3.7 inches fit in a compact body with thin sides. Color reproduction at an excellent level. No words only emotions. Just excellent high-definition video playback from Youtube, viewing is a pleasure. Someone will say - “phew, again gloss!”, But I can’t imagine the matte display on such devices. Fingerprints, of course, remain, but they are also easily erased. By the way, HTC, well, at least they would put a cloth for the screen, caring for the user and all that!
I have more than 300-400 contacts broken down by company group, so the phone book is a very important parameter for me. Before Incredible, I had a Motorola Droid with Android 2.1 bare. Prior to this, HTC Hero with 1.6. Neither on the droid nor on HTC Hero did the standard book fit me. Droid did not have a breakdown into groups, but Hero generally slowed down with Sense and the problem with the small screen affected. On HTC Incredible, the problem disappeared ... no, it’s not that it disappeared, it just does not exist ... This notebook fully meets my needs. Group of Companies, each group has contacts. With 280 contacts scored, there is not even a mention of the brakes, the phone works instantly both when searching through a book and when searching by auto-substitution when dialing a number. Bravo - Sense!

Note: none of the currently existing programs do not replace normal work with the contact book. Or they slow down or they are buggy, or simply inconvenient to use in terms of interface.
On Droid-e, everything was fine with this, but it still affects the increase in processor speed and an increase in memory. I don’t use a standard browser, but immediately I put a more advanced one - Dolphin Browser (not HD), which makes it more comfortable to work with old people.
What I really liked was working with Flash. Well, finally, from my favorite cartoon site, you can watch Futurama and The Simpsons directly. But the wife rejected, since Vkontakte games did not open. :)
There is nothing special to describe here; all Google services work perfectly. Of particular note is the practice of working with GMail. It affects the power of the processor, opening attached files, displaying pictures is simply excellent. Moto Droid did not allow such a comfortable work.
8 megapixels - WOW ?! This is probably the weakest point of the device. Well, when will HTC finally start installing normal cameras? The quality of the photos is terrible compared to the Moto Droid. Here are two photos for comparison (the links are full sizes): MotoDroid - on the left, HTC - on the right. If you do not use autofocus, then, in principle, more or less quality can be achieved, but still - sucks. Video is similar. But thanks for the flash - a great flashlight ... :)

One of the reasons for breaking up with the Moto Droid is its very poor-quality microphone and proximity sensor. After ear dialing a phone number during the conversation for the tenth time - it starts to bother. On HTC Incredible - as on HTC Droid Eris - this problem is absent. The microphone is just excellent, the speaker sound is clean, but the volume is still a bit lacking (it is tested when driving at a speed of 110-130 on the highway with an open window, as well as when talking in a cafe during a football match).
I don’t know how, where, but in our Odessa and Odessa region I was not able to find the zone without EVDO coverage from Intertelecom. Data transfer rates from 1.5 to 2.1 Mbit. Always in touch, always access to mail and twitter. Actually, I was probably just lucky with my place of residence. :)

The eternal problem is the battery. This time a pleasant surprise. With infrequent conversations (about 30-35 minutes a day), with EVDO turned on, every five minutes with updates (mail, twitter, program checking), the battery lasted two days (day, night, day). But this is rarely when this happens, so we check under load. A toy with good graphics (iCommando) landed the battery in just ... 4 HOURS! This was even more surprising, since the Moto Droid Doha was already in 1 hour 20 minutes under the same conditions. In general, I liked the battery, but there are also more on ebay and extended ones.
Note: they suggest that it is precisely due to the lower consumption of AMOLED displays that the increased operating time is achieved. If anyone understands this more, I will be glad to comment.
GPS - as always works perfectly. Download and support the constant ephemeris allows the device in the open air to fix the location with a cold start in 20 seconds. Constantly turned on GPS and using it in conjunction with Google Latitude - reduces the possibility of using the phone up to 1 daylight, which is basically enough, considering that on Moto Droid the estimated time was no more than 5-6 hours with GPS turned on.
Wi-fi As with the camera - it's a shame. Well, why not put Wi-Fi 802.11n standard? Because of this, I had to install an old router, since the entire home network was switched to 802.11n and I don’t want to reduce the speed for one device. Although considering that the cost of traffic is cheap, and in a package of 700 MB, I don’t remember when I turned on Wi-Fi last time.In the comments, microKat suggested that the hardware is 802.11n supported, but not unlocked by the manufacturer in the firmware. Custom firmware has already been implemented, but so far I do not want to use raw.
Bluetooth So I couldn’t quickly set up Bluetooth to send and receive files, but I’m not using it, because these experiments are still ahead.
Unfortunately, HTC no longer has confidence in Android OS updates, but I really hope that they will correct their attitude to at least the flagship model and updates to 2.2 or 2.x will not have to wait six months, or even a year. Although buying this device, I reconciled in advance that there would be no updates.
No matter how loud it sounds, but I will say.
Bravo HTC! This is the FIRST device that combines the convenient use of both a PHONE and an INTERNET.
PS: And last but not least, I want to express my gratitude that in Ukraine there are such companies as Intertelecom and People.Net, which allow you to use good and high-quality Internet not for fabulous money. GSM operators have someone to learn from. Do not take for advertising! And then I was already ranked among the advertisers of Inter.
PS-2: If you are still interested in any questions about it, ask in PM or in the comments.
