"Trailers of sites" or "How just one video has increased tenfold the number of real users 2: Judgment Day"
In continuation of the topic that ArtX raised in his post about the experience with the site’s video advertising.
At the end of the post a small video announcement.
Firstly, it’s nice when the effectiveness of the product we produce (trailerss.ru) is evaluated by people completely unrelated to us, immediately you stop feeling like an evangelist. Secondly, I want to warn the residents of Habr about site trailers for 3-6 thousand rubles ordered on freelance.
I want to make it clear right away that we do not consider freelancers to be our competitors, we do not have a product in the price range of 3-6 thousand rubles and we see no reason to promote our services among those customers for whom this is an acceptable amount. And all the subsequent text highlights our personal experience with freelancers.
We actively use remote specialists in our work, as the volume of orders is growing faster than the staff of the studio. Unfortunately, we quickly found out that an individual is not able to fully complete even a small project in the quality we need. Therefore, we give away small pieces of work for remote work, and only with well-developed technical specifications, which necessarily includes a stylistic solution, script and storyboard.
Simulate a video camera, make a simple shot, pick up or write a melody, advise us on typography. Such work may be the responsibility of freelancers. Even if we outsource a difficult piece of work, we first create a project with all the necessary settings, with the animation and style already created, so that we get exactly what we need at the output.
It is worth mentioning that before finding responsible professionals, we conducted a selection for two years. There are about 500 freelancers in my contact list, each of our experts has 50 more. After all the samples, there are about 10 specialists left all over the country, with whom we work with great pleasure. In addition to them, from time to time, we work with foreign professionals, for example, just the other day, in the UK, for $ 200, we ordered a minute reading of the text from a native speaker and an owner of an excellent voice timbre.
Unfortunately, all of the above does not guarantee 100% of the result. And often 3-4 stages pass with revisions before we get a result that suits us. It is worth mentioning that for each video sent to us, we write detailed comments (a 5 second video has 20 comments), which clearly indicates what needs to be fixed, how and on what frame. We don’t have comments like: not original, few dynamics, not funny, colors faded, etc.
And this is only a small part of the features of working with freelancers specializing in video design.
To summarize, I want to say the following. Firstly, if you want to make a trailer for your project with a freelancer, then be prepared to work hard and hard, otherwise the result will be weak. Secondly, it is worth remembering that one single person can not make a script, write text for the announcer, draw a storyboard for himself, review 50 videos for styling, develop a video sequence, license or write music, license the images used in the video, select and overlay sounds, read a professional voiceover and make a quality montage. All this is done by individual specialists and be prepared to work with more than one freelancer.
There are certainly exceptions. About once a year, we see a good movie made on freelance.
I hope you were interested, and the information received will be useful in the future. If you have questions, you can write to me at innokenty@skirnevsky.ru
