Automotive X-Prize: 25 Challengers for 10 Million

The first phase of the Automotive X-Prize technology competition with a prize pool of $ 10 million, which we regularly wrote about over the past two years, ended May 13 in Detroit. The so-called Shakedown was carried out in order to weed out teams that are not able to fit into the technical requirements from among the eligible applicants.

According to its results, two teams - the German TW4XP and the Italian K-Way MOTUS received the right to take part in repeated tests on June 16, as they could not reach America because of the Icelandic volcano. Together with them, Cornell 100+ MPG Team, Illuminati Motor Works, Team EVI and FVT Racing will make another attempt to enter the list of the main Race. All of them presented cars that meet the technical requirements of Automotive X-Prize, but did not pass safety tests. Three more teams - Enginer, Global-E and Western Washington University did not completely arrange the judges in terms of technology. They are also admitted to the additional June stage.

22 teams went to the next stage of the competition on the first try, among the losers - APET-X, Envera and Team FourSight.

The next Automotive X-Prize, the Knockout Qualifying Stage, will be held June 20-30 at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn, Michigan. Below is a list of the lucky ones.

The cars presented in this class must be at least four-seater and have at least 4 wheels. The power reserve for them, with any type of energy source, should be at least 200 miles or 320 kilometers.
