Review Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG Notebook

Recently, I came to the conclusion that it is time to change your EeePc 1000H to a full-fledged laptop. I had the following criteria when choosing a new assistant at work:
    • weight up to 2 kg is my psychological mark
    • long battery life - at least 6 hours, like my netbook
    • 13.3 ”screen - I think this is the optimal size of a laptop , which I will always take with me
    • Good characteristics - I want to work with comfort in it
    • The price of up to 25,000 rubles is another psychological mark, because I didn’t see any point in paying anymore
    • Less gloss - I have a cat at home, whose hair has “expanded” throughout the apartment and sticks to any item

Since March, I have already outlined one very good laptop - Acer Aspire Timeline 3810. In it, I saw the ideal laptop. But, over time, something better appears. And so it happened. At the end of March, I found out that Acer has updated its Timeline line. I liked the published specifications and photos of the new 3820, but there was no information about the price and release date. I decided to wait until May - if by that time no new information about laptops would appear, then I buy a 3810 model.

On labor day, as if manna, heavenly information surfaced in my browser window: the price is a 13 ”model of the new TimelineX line at a price of 25 thousand rubles and the announcement date is already on the way, mid-May.

Before the release of the laptop, I managed to very successfully sell the netbook and find out more about what I'm going to buy. But these are trifles, the laptop is already in my hands.

    Meet by clothes

The laptop has a strict style, a minimum of roundness and convexity. The back cover is made of aluminum, which makes it very pleasant to the touch.

Inside gloss and stylized plastic metal. In terms of design, the laptop evokes only positive emotions, even the gloss could not play in this case, and with a weight of 1.8 kg it is generally delighted.

    What's in the casket?

My model Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-333G25i has on board a new generation mobile processor from Intel Core i3 2.13 GHz, integrated Intel GMA 4500HD graphics, ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 512MB graphics card, 3 gigabytes of 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM and a 250 gigabyte hard drive . From the interfaces: 3 usb 2.0, D-SUB, HDMI, audio ports for headphones and a microphone, a network jack for RJ-45.

    Not bad, huh?

This is what 3DMark06 showed on both video cards.

There is almost no four-fold advantage behind the ATI solution.

And it’s a sin not to show the evaluation of the Windows system.

You won’t play much on integrated graphics from Intel, so it’s here for the office, for more demanding tasks: games, graphics or high-definition films - a discrete solution from AMD.
Such capacities will be enough for me both to work and to relax - which cannot but rejoice. Metro 2033 started without problems and is played quite comfortably.

My light is a mirror ...

Glossy screen, what can I say. Here's what - a glossy screen edging in addition.

This is perhaps the most significant minus of the laptop. In the sun you will sooner see your reflection than the displayed image. Nevertheless, the matrix of the laptop itself is very good, the judge according to foreign reviews has almost the same color reproduction at the premium level. Viewing angles, in comparison with the previous series, have become better, but imperfect. Fortunately, this position slightly saves a larger angle of opening the screen than its predecessor.

    Buttons!

I already guessed that all the unused gloss from the keyboards of the previous series of Timeline laptops switched to the edging of the screens of the new line. And it pleases!

After all, now it’s as if the keys floating in the air are made of rough plastic, which is very, very pleasant for the fingers. In the previous model, not only was it possible to easily take fingerprints from any key due to the gloss, and sometimes fingers behaved like drunk due to slippery surfaces. Regarding the location of the keys - the location is quite familiar to me in my old EeePc 1000H. Tiny only flaw - the arrows are castrated.
I generally like that Acer came up with something of their own in terms of design and ergonomics of the keys, and did not go, like many, for Apple and Sony.

    Long-playing

The manufacturer promises us 8 hours of work. Yes it is. At the lowest level of screen brightness, with an open office, wi-fi turned off and a minimum of programs in the tray for 8 hours, it will work, it is checked.
If we want to sit on the Internet at McDonalds, and increase the brightness to 50%, then the laptop will work for 5-6 hours.
We will be able to watch 720p video for 3 hours, but with a brightness of the same 50%.
And we can play for 1.5-2 hours in good demanding games with maximum brightness and wi-fi on.
These are very good indicators, but I would like even better. From the very beginning, I did not want to take exercises with me, because all the time I wind around Moscow and I have nowhere to recharge it. Yes, and charging is very overall. The way out I see the purchase of a 9-cell battery, especially since it is very compact, judging by the photo.

    On the little things

I’ll quickly go over other facts about the laptop.
Near the grilles of blowing hot air over time, a wooden table heats up quite well. If you play games, then the noise from 2x (and there are just so many) fans will be clearly heard, but not annoying.
The indicators shine in bright blue, which when working in a dark room can adversely affect vision.
The kit included a 64-bit Windows HP, showing everything that this laptop is capable of.
    The case creaks sometimes.
There are no bluetooth and dvd-rom in this model.
Purchase Price: 24.800 - a magical price for such a handsome laptop.

    Pros and cons

Let's go over the pros and cons of a laptop.
    Pros:
    • Good performance
    • Long battery life
    • Light weight for such a laptop - 1.8 kg
    • Good design
    • Pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with a set of useful programs from Acer
    • Convenient keyboard
    • Low price of 25,000 rubles for such a laptop
    Cons :
    • Glossy screen, glossy edging of the screen and keyboard
    • Heavy power supply
    • Bright indicators
The ratio of 7 to 3, in favor of the pros - a good result.

    To summarize

This laptop really appeal to those who want at the same time a fairly thin, lightweight and long-lasting laptop with good performance. Yes, there are flaws, but there are more advantages.
After a week and a half after the purchase, I do not regret that I chose this particular laptop. My father liked TimelineX so much that he bought an older model - Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820.
