Tripod + various trifles = convenient laptop holder in the car

    Good day!
The umpteenth time ago I purchased the ASUS Eee series netbook.
Due to its size and battery life, it has become my constant companion.

As usual, a task appeared that forced to turn on the head. It was necessary to establish a "friend" in the car. The first mounting option was whipped up, or rather twisted from a single piece of steel wire, and this stand was mounted on the steering wheel (sorry photo was not preserved). But there naturally arose a problem of using a laptop while driving.

A little google, a number of special mounts for a laptop in a car were found, but their price was not inspirational: from 3.5 thousand rubles. There was no desire to part with the “blood” ones; I decided to activate the “brain” + “arm” ligament. And so, making another “raid” in Auchan for groceries, an inexpensive tripod for a camera (300 rubles) caught my eye:

    tripod

it was he who gave impetus to the development of thought.

Digging in the garage, a piece of metal sheet was found and a netbook-sized stand was cut from it.

    piece of iron

It remains only to screw down on the bottom two holding hooks made of 4 copper wires in isolation so as not to scratch the beech, close the sharp edges with an insulating sheath from the wire put on hot glue and fix it all on the tripod itself.

The result was an interesting design that can already be used as a convenient stand for a netbook (when there is no space on the table, well, either on the table itself or when you are out of the house).

It remains only to figure out how to fix this "miracle" in the car.

    It took:
    - A piece of channel (approximately like this):

    channel

    - 2 mm plate
    - A piece of plastic plate.

We collect approximately the following and fasten to the bolt securing the passenger seat.

    mount

In the future, I secured the outlet from the auto inverter 12 - 220 volts to the channel.

The next step: in the plate we drill three holes in diameter of the plastic tips of the legs of the tripod:

    mount

From the bottom we fix a plastic plate with holes of this type.

We make grooves on the tips of the legs of the tripod.

As a result, inserting a tripod into the holes of the upper plate and turning the lower plate we fix the tripod “tightly”.

Then, in order to exclude the tripod from swinging (and this is possible), it had to be attached to the panel also from above:

As a result, the tripod is mounted and removed in a couple of seconds. And holds like a glove.

And it looks like a salon without a “tripod”. As you can see, the mounts are not visible and do not bother anyone.

And most importantly, the installed mount:
    - takes up little space,
    - rotates in any plane,
    - does not interfere with the passenger,
    - does not close the passenger airbag
and does not even interfere with the opening of the glove compartment.

In general, not counting the piece of iron found in the garage, the mount for the laptop cost only the cost of a tripod (about 300 rubles).

After a little shamanism over the radio, it became possible to connect the laptop to the speakers in the car and watching movies and music became more pleasant.

    Bonus:
For navigation I use the iGo 8 PC program in conjunction with HTC P3300 (GPS is shared). I use the Internet from Yota, which covers all of Moscow, which means I am always on-line and, for example, can stand in traffic jam or even rush along the Moscow Ring Road to talk with friends via Skype. It remains only to install the touch screen panel on the laptop, for more convenient management.

By the way, this Asus beech model was chosen for the lack of a conventional hard drive, instead of which a Flash HDD is installed, which is absolutely calm about shaking and vibration of the car.

PS: Photographing and description of the manufacturing process was made with the permission of the author of this stand, my friend - Volodin Andrey. For which many thanks to him.
