Intelligent brick with navigation

    This black brick will be today's guest of my article.
    This is a modern navigator MW-500 from the company with the simple name PocketNavigator.

    image

    He knows a lot of things besides the fact that he can lie and give a beautiful look to a table or hang
    in a car and serve as a mirror.

    UPD: Updated the photo and added important info about the price.

    As you already understood, this is a GPS navigator from the company Pocket Navigator ("Pocket Navigator", banal, but understandable).
    The company specializes exclusively in the production of navigators and has made significant progress. Of course, most of the functions of
    navigators depend on the software that is installed in them, but sometimes developers fill these assistants with motorists and some extra functions, which I will talk about later.

    When you purchase the MW-500, you get an elegant glossy box in black and blue. In principle, the standard.

    Its filling consists of:
    * MW-500 navigator itself
    * 220-230 V power adapter
    * Car holder for mounting on the windshield
    * Car charger
    * Cable for connecting to a PC
    * Disk with user manual
    * Stylus pen
    * User manual

    Basically everything The same as in other navigators, but the good news is that everything is present and you don’t have to buy a mini-Usb wire to connect to a computer.

    I also liked the fact that there is a stylus in the navigator. It will be convenient for precise use and indicating the route, as sometimes with a finger
    you miss and try to point where you want for a long time.

    Well, another significant difference from my previous GPS navigators and communicators is the large screen, which is useful to you both in navigation and in watching movies and reading books. Oh, blabbed. Well, I’ll tell you more later.

    Technical specifications:
    * Processor: Atlas 372MHz
    * ROM: 512MB
    * RAM: 64MB
    * Screen: 5-inch diagonal, 480x272
    * Operating system: Windows CE 5.0
    * Memory card slots: SD
    * GPS-receiver: SiRF Star III, up to 20 channels
    * Expansion slots: 1 slot with SD / MMC support
    * Communications:
    - Support for mini USB standard for PC connection
    - Hands-free communication via Bluetooth technology
    * Multimedia features:
    - Built-in speaker
    - MP3 player
    - Video player -
    Graphic file
    browser - Text file browser
    - Stereo output

    On the surface there is only a complete shutdown lever (and, accordingly, reset routes), a stylus and an opening for it :

    Screen off button,

    Speakers, 3.5mm headphone input, mini-USB connector for connecting to a computer and transferring data, SD card slot.

    Just want to say that in this model PocketNavigator has Bluetooth, which can be used for various purposes.

    So, here, the navigator itself. Composite housing. The front is glossy with the inscription Pocket Navigator.
    The back is matte, a little vinyl. It is very convenient to hold in your hands, as almost does not slip.

    But its mount for the car.

    The device holds it tightly enough. Adjusting the position in space is easy and convenient.

    But, let's move on from external mechanical properties to the filling, which I personally am of particular interest.
    Operating System: Windows CE. It is more than enough for a device of this kind.

    The navigator loads in 8-10 seconds. After that, you have 4 buttons at your disposal: Actually, the navigation itself; Multimedia; Settings Volume.

    In the settings you can adjust the brightness, volume, etc. parameters.
    The Autosatellite program is in the navigation, they say that there are models with built-in iGo. But I don’t have it.

    Satellites finds on the street quickly enough. Somewhere around 30 seconds and your position in space has already been determined.
    While the arrow never drove, everything was clear along the roads, the satellites did not turn off.
    In general, I will not delve into software, because You, in fact, can put what you want.
    An autosatellite, for example, looks like this. It’s convenient enough, even for finger control, but you can use the stylus to set the route more accurately. Fast and convenient.

    And finally, multimedia: photos, audio, video, books, bluetooth.

    Agree, not bad for a navigator. It is very convenient, especially if stuck in traffic, turn on the movie. Of course, just not enough
    USB input to watch something from flash drives, but SD is enough.
    Everywhere there is a built-in player, very simple, but, most importantly, it plays)

    Here are the speakers through which it reproduces sounds quite loudly and cleanly. This, of course, is not 5.1 Dolby Digital, but for such a beast it is very good.

    Now dwell a little on Bluetooth.
    With it, you can:
    a) transfer files
    b) Make a headset from the navigator (that is, connect it to the phone and use it as a speakerphone)
    This is very convenient, because Don't be distracted by your phone or buy separate hands-free devices in your car.

    Connecting to a PC is standard, as with all Windows Mobile devices, that is, you can upload files and cards through Explorer. And it is possible through a card. Or bluetooth.

    In principle, this is all I wanted to say about this device.

    His price is quite acceptable: 3990 rubles.
    When exchanging your old communicator for this new one, you will be given a 1000r discount. and it will cost 2990 rubles.

    Read the exchange here HERE

    I think that for such a screen and functions it is better than just good, especially since it combines both a media player and an e-book and GPS.

    Somehow I will not evaluate the pros and cons. Overall rating: 4+.
    Liked: stylus, media applications, large screen, headphones.
    I did not like it: pixel interface.

    In general, I advise all motorists who often get stuck in traffic and want to watch movies, listen to music or read books, while having a map at hand so as not to get lost.
