MyRuLib - My Electronic Librarian

MyRuLib is a free (free and open) program for organizing a home library (collection) of e-books in fb2 format. It is multi-platform: it works on Linux, Windows, and in the long run MacOS. You can use it to work with Librusek , Flibust libraries , or catalog your own collection of files.

The project is under active development: the first version was released in July 2009 and a regular update is released every two to three weeks. The current version number is 0.18, the program already has sufficient functionality and stability. This is largely due to the active participation of the user community of the program .

By functionality, the MyRuLib program matches its Windows predecessors: MyHomeLib and LibRusLib . For the uninitiated, I will briefly describe some of its possibilities.

The main advantage of MyRuLib is the high speed of file processing when importing books into the collection. Details: author, titles, genres, series are read from XML tags in accordance with the FB2 standard . For two and a half hours on a regular home computer, the program is able to process about 120 thousand files with a total volume of 64 gigabytes.

Searching for books in the collection is possible both by author and by title. There are catalogs of series, genres, favorites, custom folders, own ratings, and comments on books. In addition to FB2 files, import of arbitrary files with a description in FBD format is supported .

The official site has builds for Ubuntu 9.10, Debian 5.0, Mandriva 2010, Fedora 12, and of course for Windows. You can download ready-made daily updated collections for the Flibust electronic library: compact (15 Mb), or the full version (35 Mb), which additionally contains descriptions of the authors and short book annotations. Of course, C ++ sources are available .

The collection file itself does not contain the books themselves, only the name, some details, a list of authors and a link to download the book on the website of Flibust or a local copy of this library. The program is able to download selected books in batch mode. The downloaded files can then be exported to an external device, or opened in your favorite reader, specifying it first in the settings.

In the end, I consider it necessary to thank the creator of the Librusek library, as well as the library team of Flibust, who picked up the fallen banner of Freedom. I have no doubt for a moment that the future of literature belongs completely to freely distributed electronic books. Hurrah!
