ROC urges to fight against anonymity on the Internet
The Moscow Patriarchate expressed concern about the danger of the spread of extremist ideas on the Internet.
The priests explain their position by the fact that on the network "people usually hide behind nicknames, full of filth, mutual insults and extremist statements." This, in particular, was stated by the head of the Synodal Department for Relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and Society, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin (pictured) at a meeting of the Russian Victory organizing committee.
The priest supported the proposal made during the meeting by the vice-governor of St. Petersburg Alla Manilova to eliminate anonymity in the largest social Internet networks. He called for “at least at the level of codes of honor of self-respecting people, and maybe even at the level of administration, anonymity on the Internet be excluded”.
Vsevolod Chaplin also supported the proposal formulated in preparation for the meeting to create a cycle of television and radio programs on the spiritual and moral education of youth, emphasizing that "the lack of demand for such programs is a myth."
The priest cited sociological data, voiced, according to him, on the eve of one of the TV channels, according to which about a third of the population of Russia prefers to watch documentaries and educational programs, and about 90% believe that “today programs that cannot be shown on TV”.
In addition, the representative of the Moscow Patriarchate praised the Ministry of Justice's initiatives to conduct an examination of literature for signs of extremism and the development of draft laws regulating the activities of missionaries and religious groups that are not legal entities.
“People who propagandize extremist ideas should be aware of the inevitability of the deterrent power of law and punishment,” the priest said.
However, in his opinion, to overcome extremism, not only restrictive measures are needed, but also the support of “well-meaning youth organizations”, including those associated with religious associations.
The main topic of the meeting of the Victory organizing committee was the issue of the activities of state authorities and civil society institutions of the Russian Federation in the prevention of political and religious extremism in the activities of youth public organizations.
The meeting, chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, was also attended by Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov, Minister of Sports Vitaly Mutko, First Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the metropolitan government Lyudmila Shvetsova, presidential envoys in the federal districts, head of the Russian Mufties Council, Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, Chief Rabbi of Russia (FEOR) Berel Lazar.
