Mail.ru overtook Rambler in profitability

The owners of the portal Mail.ru yesterday reported on the financial results for the half year (April-September 2009). Oddly enough, the results were quite successful ( PDF ). Moreover, Mail.ru came out on the second place among all Runet portals in terms of revenue volume, having ousted Rambler.

For half a year, Mail.ru LLC earned 1.028 billion rubles. (+ 30.7% over the same period last year), while Rambler’s revenue fell to 1.019 billion (-17.5%). It is difficult to compare with Yandex, because this company has not yet disclosed its reports, but there the figures are about four times higher (at least last year there was such a ratio). That is, Yandex is generally out of competition.

Mail.ru EBITDA profit increased by 19% to 518 million rubles.

What does the mail portal earn? Still, more than half of the revenue comes from banner ads (55%), although its share is gradually decreasing. Another 22% came from contextual advertising, and income from affiliate programs - 11%.

For the owners of Mail.ru, this half-year has become especially joyful, because the company paid dividends for the first time, Vedomosti writes . As you know, a 53.2% stake in Mail.ru belongs to DST and the oligarch Alisher Usmanov, and another 42.9% to the South African company Naspers.
