Google Navigation works all over the world ... thanks to a little hack ;-)
Many of you have heard that Google introduced its Navigation program a couple of weeks ago.
Who didn’t see, here is the link to the video
But there was one problem with this program ... It worked only in the USA.
Most likely, the licenses for maps purchased by Google did not call to use navigation in other countries
(Google already has its own maps in the USA ;-))
But, as we know, the world is not without good people: Thanks to their efforts, Navigation works all over the world, in including in our countries, he just rode around Kiev with her:
Under the cat, how to achieve this on your phone running OS Android
PS The original of this guide was taken from the xda-developers forum
Initial requirements:
1. HTC Dream or HTC Magic
2. Firmware based on Android 1.6 (Donut) (tested on the latest build version of cyanogen 4.2.5)
3. Third-party recovery such as Amon's or Cyanogen (available on the same XDA for different phone models)
4.
Brains 5. Here is this file
What you need to do:
1. Download this file here (for Cyanogen assemblies) Mirror on the People
2. Put it in the root of the SD card
3. Reboot into recovery (press Home + Power on when loading)
3. Select chose update.zip (if there is no such item) , rename a file to update.zip)
4. Select update_navigation.zip
5. Apply the update (this should podverdit selection by pressing the Home) button
6. Restart your phone background
7. Click Settings-Speech Synthesis-Install Voice Data or download SpeechSynthesis Data from the market
8. Launch Maps
9. Select Directions
10. Indicate (you can use the dots on the map) 2 any addresses in the United States and press Go-
as a result, in the menu You should see the item Navigate
11. Download the NavLauncher
12 program from the market . Run this program, enter the address you need
and voila, you have navigation in your city (unless of course it is on Google maps ;-))
Tested for yourself, it works well.
Of the shortcomings, voice guidance so far only in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish. Russian may appear in the next versions of Speech Synthesis ...
+ NavLauncher is still in its infancy, written by enthusiasts from the forum ;-)
Good luck in navigation!
UPD: I drove from Obolon to Lukyanovka (Kiev, Ukraine). Thanks to Google, I drew the route well and changed it twice when I went the wrong way. It can work in the background and display only voice prompts. The navigation mode in satellite photography is especially pleasant.
A slight inconvenience is to constantly try to say turn left on ... but the names of the streets are taken from Google maps in Russian, and so far they cannot synthesize their names :-) but where to turn it is clear both on the map and on the spoken distance. (In 200 meters turn left on. ....)
We are waiting for the next hacks that will allow you to cache maps ...
UPD2: People continued to patch the maps file, now this hack is much easier: downloadthis archive , run the corresponding batch file (depending on whether you have a rooted phone or not). When it asks you to press any key, wait for the phone to load. Oh, I forgot to say that when connecting the phone to the computer USB debugging should be turned on in the phone settings. And voila - everything should work. In addition, you can now start navigation from the cards themselves - there is no need for a third-party application
