The other day, I received by mail a personal invitation to the Elba conference - apparently, my “wide popularity in narrow circles” of startups affected.
To be honest, a little tired of such invitations. Conferences where regular investors are looking for new projects are already tiring: they are most often held under the auspices of one investor who does not know what he wants, except for one thing - to get the effect of these investments as soon as possible. “Long money” has not been seen on the Internet market for a long time, at least - their owners usually do not attend such events.
However, I looked through their site, read the information, talked with knowledgeable people ... And I decided to go demonstrate my project. And I seriously hope to get money for a share in it.
Without disclosing, at the request of the invitees, extra names and regalia, I can only hint - for the first time a conference will be held, which will be attended by serious investors with relatively “long money”. They need a conference because they know almost nothing about the Russian Internet business. So this time it’s quite possible to get a serious offer to a self-confident startup. I’m just like that, without too much modesty. My colleagues and I have been doing a project about mobile TV for quite some time, and now the most successful moment for an investor is to enter a already prepared startup that needs money for promotion and promotion.
The organizers of "ElBy" on their website declare - "finding money is much easier than the project"! It seems that they still have the end of the 90s in their yard, when the programmer was worth its weight in gold and was valued as a nuclear physicist. And then, too, no one understood the meaning of the projects, but everyone was ready to give the last money "for the long term." I’ve heard lately that “money bags”, desperate to make money in the crashing real estate market, are painfully looking for where to attach the freed cache - apparently, Elba is just such a case.
Behind all this is clearly a “bag of money” that either wants to organize PR for itself, or has heard a lot about “Russian craftsmen” and wants to “grab a fool” for tidbits. I consider it not a crime to not take advantage of such an offer - then they themselves will be to blame if they fly by.
Personally, I’ll go alone so as not to pay extra money for the rest of the team. Already filed an application. Although it’s personally strange for me that they call only one representative from the team - all investors always say that “it’s important for us to see the team”, “the team is the key to the success of the project”, “people decide everything in software projects”, and they only call one man. Perhaps this is another indicator of the "professionalism" of the organizers.
I can imagine the reaction of some hawkers to my statement. If you feel envy - sympathize. It’s so “in Russian” - to put your achievements to hell and feel free to speak openly - “yes, I can, I can, I can handle it, I'm the best.” With this attitude, most of the topics are written where the next internet startup is PR. But with this attitude, you can only rely on someone stroking your head, and someone laughing at the crooked code in the engine. With this attitude, it is useless to count on the development of your business. I will be at Elba, I will present my project with dignity - and I hope that on Habré there will be enough of the same confident people with whom we will meet at this event. Do not get bored for two days in a society of “money bags”.
