Checking the Habra effect on the optimized CMS Livestreet ...

    image
    I would like to briefly describe how Habr helped me in ... (it is difficult to write in literature) In short, I simply helped:

    a) Make a new, productive acquaintance;
    b) Make a Honda CR-V (allegory) from the VAZ-2106; make a flying site out of a slow site;
    c) To get acquainted with the process of moving a project from a shared hosting to VPS hosting.

    ... I decided, then, to somehow reanimate a site hosted on a shared hosting from MasterHost, which was "blown away" already with 20 users online due to exceeding the permissible load on the server percent. Initially, I thought initially to make a choice in favor of VDS removal , but so that with someone for two, for three. To my surprise, I received the following comment from the user Andrey_Rogovsky in the topic :

    I am engaged in optimization for high loads and I have my own server for VPS, with free space.
    With pleasure I will take you to my place on VPS for free, and I will try to correct the situation with LiveStreet with competent settings.

    So, point "a" - an acquaintance with Andrei took place.

    Further corresponded in PM. I was explained to a hitherto unfamiliar mysterious word "habraeffect" in connection with the fact that the declared for the test of the UPU Andrei holds habraeffects .

    I decided, why not try and wrote to Andrei. I ask that, they say, yes, how, why you agree to host for free, etc. He explained that, in principle, he provides his VPS on a commercial basis and / or offers quality settings, and that he will stay with me for a month for test-drive 'a. At first I refused, thinking, but what for do I need it? Whether it will be good or bad, but the cost turned out to be higher than planned for me, and after a month he will "ask" me anyway. But in the evening of the same (or the next, I don’t remember already) day, I thought: “One hell, I have no experience migrating the site to another hosting, let alone VPS. I will turn to him. Well, it’ll cost nothing anyway! ” And he turned.

    Andrei immediately sent me the passwords to the server, the base, and, he says, pour his good there. I uploaded. He rolled up a dump of the base there and ... WOW-LA - at such an IP address, my site is spinning at its UPU. BUT how it spun !!! It was clearly felt the same way as when I moved from the VAZ 2106 to the brand new Honda CR-V. And all because a) of course, completely different resources were at my disposal and b) right away, we and Andrey changed the file cache (another is not supported on shared hosting) to the memory cache! Mom, dear, every 3 times everything started to fly faster.

    Point "b" was solemnly fulfilled.

    Well, I think that we must then move to it directly with a domain name, i.e. moving out from the masterhost. Andrew introduced me to WinSCP- Before that I used Total Commander, but now I’ve got this program ... I poured the site on VPS. Meanwhile, Andrei shamanized something there, the site worked for that IP or not, but in the end, Andrei wrote: “That's it, prepared the site for the move, change the IP server from the masterhost to mine in the DNS editor”.

    On Saturday evening, when the traffic on my already sparsely visited website is minimal (yes, then Russia-Germany also played :-)) changed the IP address and, by a miracle, the new address was instantly picked up by DNS servers and people began to get to the same site, but much faster. Cool.

    Point "c" is completed.

    Further, Andrei and I optimized performance every now and then. More precisely, he himself, and I, as if in a chair with popcorn, watched the site fly and fly off into the stratosphere. It’s a pity that soon, probably, I’ll move from Andrey to, it seems, the hosting I have chosen from RBC, but I say many thanks to HIM now: THANKS. For the settings of the VPS (well, or “iron” servers) I will now turn to him for quite reasonable money. Here.

    ... On Wednesday, if anyone had seen a topic Habré with an appeal to help the community LiveStreet (on this engine and running my site) represented ort 'a volunteer and all the doughchat performance. The link given above describes the test results: LS stayed, as well as VPS from RBC hosting, but they left him, as a result, with 220 people online due to some kind of chat error! :)))

    In view of how banal curiosity and practical interest, I dare to ask you already, colleagues, if appropriate on my part, as you do not mind, then, can the joint efforts of protest this most habraeffekt , and with me in the UPD post graphs of server load “before” and “after”. Delicious: a reference to monitoring server performance ! And already on the basis of these data it will be possible to see with your own eyes whether it survived or not (I think it will withstand 200 online). So, if (crossed himself) they don’t mess with me, lean on:
