Windows 7 Professional / Ultimate - Do We Need It?
Here is my opinion about the features that are in all editions more expensive than Home Premium:
Home Premium - 199 $
Professional - 299 $
Ultimate - 319 $
And now we will begin to compare according to the official table of differences from M $ :
So do we need to overpay $ 100 for xp mode available in the Professional edition when the same thing we can provide a virtual box for free? (I remind you that xp mode is a special version of ms virtual pc that works "transparently" for the user, you’ll be without a desktop, only windows). I think it's not worth it. (after all, as we all know many things that people need (for example, directx), they cannot work at full strength in any virtual machine)
Microsoft says that windows 7 Ultimate contains as many as eight differences, but are they important to most people? At least three new functions ( BranchCache, Enterprise Search, DirectAccess ) are intended only for enterprise applications (and as far as I know, they are available in the enterprise version which they will use where these functions are needed). Other features of Ultimate - support for 35 languages, BitLocker and AppLocker functions (the last two did not find fans in Vista). Finally - in the most expensive version of Windows 7 there is a Virtual Desktop Interface and Virtual Hard Drive Booting (creating multiple boot copies of Windows). Does the average user need all this? I think no.
upd: did not expect me to be so clamored, worse than on leprosy: /
upd2: well, at least a little pulled in a plus, thanks :)
