Windows 7 from the point of view of the musician

Windows 7 RC (which 7100) appeared on the network for a long time, there were a lot of reviews, but for myself, as a musician, I couldn’t draw anything from them, so I hesitated to put or not to put it for a long time? Will the software I need work there or not?

    System.

Testing was carried out on a "bare" computer, without any special equipment (except for the midi-keyboard).
    Mat. Board : Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 (rev. 3.3).
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz.
    Sound: built-in Realtek ALC883.
OS: Windows 7 RC (build 7100) Russian version.
    Midi-keyboard: M-Audio KeyRig 49.

During testing, the following were also active: Casper, Daemon Tools, uTorrent, KMPlayer and all services and processes enabled by default.

    From software used:
    1. Ableton Live 8.
    2. Ableton Live 7.
    3. Propellerheads Reason 4.
    4. Adobe Audition 3.
    5. Kontakt 2 + Prominy Clean Guitars (VST).
    6. Toontrack ezDrummer (VST).
    7. Guitar Rig 3 (VST).
    8. Amplitube Metal (VST).
    9. Amplitube Fender (VST).

    From the above, everything works.

    Generally.

In general, "Seven" decides. I really liked the interface, the speed and stability are also on top. For almost a week of operation, the Windows never “fell”, and did not even ask to send a report to some mother there. The only thing she assumed was that some of the programs were “probably not installed correctly”, but she could be told that the program was installed correctly, and there were no more disagreements.

    Pros.

    1. No hassle with drivers. Windows found everything by itself, but for the midi-keyboard I didn’t have to look for anything. Everything works out of the box.
    2. There was no need for Asio4ALL drivers, if, for example, on Vista, when using the built-in (or clumsy external) sound card, we did not observe a weak delay, and sometimes did not observe anything at all, then everything is fine here. Midi-keyboard also works with a bang. Tested on Reason 4, Live 7 and Live 8.
    3. Reason’s glitch disappeared from Reason when it couldn’t be connected to anything. Previously treated with a patch.

    Minuses.

    1. In Live 8, not a single plugin from Amplitube works - it doesn’t "see" stupidly. Perhaps this glitch is not Windows, but the 8th Live.
    2. Kontakt 2 works strangely, but again only in the 8th Live. The strangeness is manifested in the fact that despite the fact that the "banks" are loaded entirely during the game, some sounds are not played.
    3. When loading some banks in Guitar Rig 3, the host program freezes. Again, Live 8.

    Total.

So what do we have? There are many pluses, and the cons are very doubtful, I doubt very much that this is due to Windows. For those who still do not believe in Windows 7 and are scared of the words Release Candidate, I can give you a couple more reasons - here is a list of non-music software that I used on my machine. Everything works with a bang:
    - Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009
    - Daemon Tools Lite 4.30.4
    - KMPlayer 2.9.4.1434
    - AIMP 2 v2.51 Build 330
    - uTorrent 1.8
    - Sims 3 ^ _ ^
    - Adobe Photoshop CS4
    - Adobe FireWorks CS4
    - CS Strike 1.6 : D
    - Google Chrome 2.0.172.28
    - Microsoft Office 2007
    - 1C Enterprise 7, 8
    - QiP 8092

If you delve into the Internet, you can read about the fact that Wavelab 5, Cubase 4, and much, much more work great on the “seven”. In general, I advise everyone to move to Windows 7;)
