Samsung Alias 2 - the first mobile phone with an e-ink keyboard
Samsung Alias 2, a clamshell with a keyboard made using e-ink technology, went on sale in the United States.
The concept of its keyboard is painfully reminiscent of Optimus Maximus - the images on the keys correspond to the functions that they perform. Moreover, the device also takes into account a change in orientation, deploying images on the keys. There was also an interesting use for the inverse image - the inverse marks the cursor keys.
The principle of operation is well demonstrated in this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4_hBxaOP7I
The rest of the configuration is pretty standard: a screen with a resolution of 320x240 pixels, a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS.
The device will be sold through the network of Verizon, at a price of around $ 100 with a two-year contract.
It is noteworthy that the first version of this phone, released in 2006, had the same form factor, but a standard keyboard.
