Triangle Time — Nerves — Money for easy planning and valuation of personal resources.

    With my first “test” post on Habré, I’m thinking of introducing to the community my system of assessing and balancing the costs of personal “resources” and getting them.

    At the end of my tumultuous youth, when I had already started to think that there are other shades between all kinds of black and white, but had not yet figured out which ones, I needed a kind of mental scheme by which I could evaluate it as my personal expenses, as well as your personal benefits from any business or project. As a result of lengthy reflections, generalizations, and other pangs of cookies, a simple and obvious figure was deduced, but at the same time complex enough to fully reflect everything that follows from the project.

    So, I present to your court - the triangle Time — Nerves — Money and its practical application.

    Initially, this is the simplest construction - three imaginary axes, even on the plane, on which the benefits and costs are measured in three categories, plus or minus, respectively. This system in no way pretends to be accurate or complete (or, to be honest, novelty and originality), but sometimes it serves as an excellent skeleton for reflection.

    So, imagine that you started a business. Or Case. Or even a whole huge Project. Personal, very personal - because when it’s not personal, it’s still better to formalize the costs and benefits in some other, more accurate way - and there are a lot of such ways now. And sometimes you need to evaluate, but is it worth it to perform at all, and if it is, then how? My model comes to the rescue. Three categories reflect literally everything that you can get or spend, and although in general everything is clear and so, we will analyze them in more detail.

    Time


    The most obvious thing about this point is the cost of your own time. It is necessary in order to study everything that you need for your Cause, in order to organize or carry out this very Case. This comes at a direct cost. Sometimes Money indirectly affects Time - for example, when you need to accumulate start-up capital, or Nerves - when, for example, you get so tired in the process of doing the Cause that you have to devote extra days and hours to rest. But although traditionally there are solid minuses on this scale, future savings can be recorded as a plus - take, for example, automation of routine operations, especially when there are a lot of them - having spent a couple of hours now, it will be possible to pay back these hours in the future.



    Nerves


    For those to whom I previously stated this theory, Nerves caused the greatest difficulty - for some reason it is customary not to take them into account. But this is where your own state and emotions are located - and here is irritation, stress, and other Nerves. The plus of this axis is most noticeable moral satisfaction - "I have it made!", "I did !" Or " I did it!". The emphasis changes to taste. Here too - self - development in various forms. Improving self-esteem. Mood improvement. Motivation. et cetera.

    On the other hand, the negative part of the scale is not a gift either. Nobody needs, for example, apaptia from performing routine operations again and again. Or take eternal friction with colleagues. Wacky meeting. Deteriorating family atmosphere. Eternal fatigue and other chronic red-eyed. And so on and so forth - everyone can substitute here everything related to emotions, well-being, their own motivation.

    Most often, Nerves are balanced by Money - to pay for something now, so as not to think about it constantly - a great opportunity for those who have it. And vice versa, Money is obtained with costs primarily of Nerves , but only in the second Time. (This remark, however, does not apply to a typical office worker - naturally, Time is in the first place there). In addition, often, very often, it is necessary to take into account both sides of this scale - often hammering one’s head against a wall of an insoluble task, cracking the granite of science and other dangerous actions ultimately lead to a more than positive state and mood.

    Money


    They are money . Plus, minus, balance - all this is written before me, for me, and often much better than me. In general, Money can both go into the Case and appear as a result of it. Sometimes directly - for example, when your Case is initially conceived as generating revenue - and sometimes indirectly. The importance of Money by itself, everyone decides for himself.

    Balance


    And here, in summing up, all the fun begins. What to choose for spending - Time or Money ? What is more preferable to receive - the same Money , or the reassurance of Nerves ?

    For illustration, I’ll try to make out a simple household example, which is not even a project or an affair, but in the most perfect way a thing - a dishwasher. Walking sequentially and from the end according to our small scheme - Money is involved here in the most obvious way - we spend it. And we continue to spend on all kinds of consumables for her - chemistry, spare parts, when needed, etc. Indirectly Moneymay spend the need to take time off work on the day of installation. The plus here seems to come from nowhere. At the very beginning, nerves sag somewhat - you need to understand where to shove it, where to put what it was there, in the extreme case, to completely re-plan the kitchen - after which they begin to wake up with terrible force during operation. Even without accurate weighings on this scale, I personally get an absolute plus. Time here is similar to Nerves - at first a little wasted, then in a deafening plus.

    Thus, we generally spent a certain amount of Money in order to compensate for Time and Nerves.in future. According to my small model, we examined a few details of the planned business and already know where we are in the plus, where in the red, and most importantly - why, where pitfalls may arise and what else will have to be taken into account additionally.

    Now you can balance - change some details of the upcoming business in order to obtain benefits on other axes. In more complex cases, you can make a second or third pass before balancing to see how first-order changes affect other resources. Again, in complex and long affairs, the importance and “scale” of the axes can change over time, which also has to be taken into account sometimes.

    Such a simple-looking system more than once helped me personally, as well as many of those whom I acquainted with it, think and plan Cases and Projects from all kinds of small things to quite large and long and served as a good help in the initial planning. But on the other hand, it is extremely subjective. Use it.

    PS. Prior to the state to which the system has been reduced now, there was still the Health axis , but in the end it fused with the Nerves . To whom health is very, very important, it may be worth highlighting it separately.
