My experience setting up the wl500gvp2 router as a print server

I am the proud owner of this magical device . In addition to its basic functions, this router can also serve as a print server and file wash thanks to the presence of two USB 2.0 ports.

My hands didn’t get to setting up filewashing, but the print server is my old dream.

The firmware I have is from Oleg , version 1.9.2.7-10. Printer - Xerox 3120 (similar to Samsung 1510).

A small digression: on the Russian Internet there is a wonderful forum wl500g.info , it is run by the very Oleg, from whom I have firmware. The first thing you should do after buying any asus router is to go there. A lot of interesting and useful.

Let's get back to our sheep.
We connect the printer to any USB port of the router we like and look at the section in the web interface
    Status & Log

The printer is determined, it is already pleasing. We are trying to configure the printer without a driver .

If it works, then you can no longer read, but if not, then you can try the following: we
go with the help of telneta router. In my case it’s
    telnet 192.168.1.1

    Give a command
    p910nd -f -b /dev/usb/lp0

The program is p910nddesigned just for our case: everything that comes to the tcp port 9100, it sends to the specified device. The router is configured so that it considers the printer to be a device
    /dev/usb/lp0

    We will not disappoint him.

After that, we put the printer driver on the machine with which we are going to print. Those. we do everything that is written in this manual , except for item 11. Select the correct printer driver.

After that, everything worked for me, which I was incredibly happy!
