Very fast search with Everything
I'll start a little "from afar". The fact is that I (and I think I'm not the only one) - I really like small but functional programs. I have met several such applications, which cannot be called anything other than masterpieces of software engineering. It’s a pity that the list of these “nanotechnological” masterpieces has rarely been replenished.
But today's reading of the news feed from the Russian life hacker brought a link to another such masterpiece.
This is a program with a very modest (albeit well-aimed) name everything and it is intended for quick search by file and folders by name.
Firstly, this is the size (installer 293 kB in the current version).
Secondly, the speed of work. Creating an index on my computer took so long that I didn’t even notice how it happened :) And the search happens very instantly.
Thirdly, low resource consumption, most of the time the program sits quietly in memory and asks for nothing, appearing only when you press a given keyboard shortcut.
Fourth, support in finding real regexp, which makes it flexible and powerful.
Fifth, the presence of web and FTP interfaces (I don’t know where they put it in 200 kb, but they are :))
Fifth, frequent updates that bring new functionality.
And much, much more ...
Naturally, the problem was not without drawbacks (although this, in my opinion, is precisely the case when they can most likely be considered not bugs, but logical limitations)
- the program does not search for the contents of the files, although if this functionality is implemented , her gluttony will increase at times
- The program works only with Windows OS and only with NTFS partitions (apparently the speed is precisely due to some low-level focus).
If the two above-mentioned minuses are not critical for you, then I recommend to try working with everything ...
PS By the way, I do not think that “I am smart” is the most suitable blog for this topic, but apparently I personally am dumb. 10 minutes I was looking for a suitable one, but could not be found. If someone tells me, I will be very grateful :)
