A review of the Cameron Maxmedia NB-1060 subnotebook with a 10.2 "screen.

Such processor features not only allow it to work successfully without cooling fans, but also increase the reliability level of the entire system. Proceeding from this, the CAMERON Maxmedia NB-1060 Notebook is completely silent (the only source of noise is the hard drive) and relatively cold (the case temperature did not rise above 28 ° C during testing).

In terms of performance, this processor of stars from the sky is not enough, and this is not required, because its main purpose is to work on the Internet and with electronic documents away from home or office, sitting at the station waiting for an airplane or train.

RAM: The
laptop is equipped with 512 MB of RAM, of which up to 24 megabytes uses a VGA adapter integrated north bridge chipset. This amount of memory is more than enough for comfortable work on the Internet and office documents. It is annoying that adding the RAM itself will not work. On the bottom of the laptop there are no technological hatches for accessing RAM. The only thing that can be easily removed is the keyboard.

HDD:
The hard drive installed in the laptop has a capacity of 60 GB and a rotation speed of 4200 rpm. A relatively low rotation speed in this case is most likely a plus than a minus, because in this case the hard drive heats up and consumes much less energy than its faster counterparts, and there are more than enough speed indicators for the main routine work.

Screen:
We should also mention the screen size. A lot of people scolded the Asus eeePC 701 for its small and stupid looking 7-inch screen with a completely ridiculous resolution by today's standards. Notebook CAMERON Maxmedia NB-1060 compares favorably with eeePC 701, new eeePC, HP-2133, because the screen of this laptop is 10.2 inches with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, which will make it more comfortable to work on the Internet without horizontal scrolling, as in eeePC 701.
So It’s worth noting the dullness of the screen. Unlike the “newfangled” glossy screens, the screen of this laptop is matte, which predisposes to work, and not to looking at oneself in the mirror.

Sound:
The sound path is represented by an AC-97 compatible codec. Subjectively, when listening through headphones, noise is heard in the sound path in the pauses between songs, but the sound itself is beyond praise - lively, dynamic, with a good rendering of the sound range. Fans of listening to music with headphones loudly will appreciate the audio path of this laptop - it is not just loud, it is very loud and at the same time does not distort the sound at high volume.

Wi-Fi:
Pleasantly pleased with the Wi-Fi module. The laptop managed to find 7 networks in the testing place, and the nearby Acer 5520G only 3. This is a very good result and fans of surfing the Internet via Wi-Fi will like it. Such indicators are primarily due to the competent design of the antenna of the Wi-Fi controller and, of course, the use of the very successful Zyxel G-202 controller.

Work with OS: The
laptop comes with Linux, which is only favorably displayed on its retail price, but nothing prevents you from installing Windows XP on it, since the laptop comes with all the necessary drivers. As a result, Windows XP was installed on the laptop, however, due to the lack of a built-in DVD drive, I had to use an external one. Windows was installed easily and no complaints were found.
The laptop easily copes with playing both video and audio files. As test files, files compressed by xVid, DivX, MP3 and FLAC codecs were used. During video playback, there were no drop-out frames and no braking - the image is smooth, without jerking.
Of course, this laptop is not intended for games, but still it was possible to launch StarCraft and Dungeon Keeper 2 on it, and the first one could be played calmly. The work of the installed Microsoft Office 2003 also did not cause serious comments - it was quite comfortable to work.

Conclusion:
This laptop stands out from its peers in the first place with a large screen (10 inches versus 7 - 9 inches for most competitors), with a relatively identical size and weight, a sufficiently capacious disk, sufficient for comfortable work and storage of a small library. This laptop can be recommended primarily for those who often have to travel on business trips, as well as students as a convenient learning assistant.
