Open Source Netgear Router

    Network equipment maker Netgear has released the world's first Open Source router . The Netgear WGR614L model (renamed WGR614v7 model) operates in the 802.11g standard and is designed for home use. It has already gone on sale for $ 69.

    The router is based on the Linux platform, initially it comes with all source codes for firmware and drivers, and the central processor of the device with a standard frequency of 240 MHz can be officially overclocked. The manufacturer directly points to this fact by advertising his new product. In addition, it is officially allowed to install firmware from other manufacturers in the router open source, including Tomato and DD-WRT.

    Even the user manual for the router can be called “open source”, it was compiled taking into account user edits in a specially created forum.
