Education for everyone!
Since I could not leave a comment on the post " Education for All? ", I will allow myself to publish it on a personal blog.
Let's get started!
Gentlemen, I do not want to be rude, but half of the post (not all) and almost all comments are complete heresy. =) I do not want to offend the authors, the problem is that many make some statements based on very little experience. I will allow myself to give some comments as an employee of one of the Moscow state universities.
For starters, I want to correct the author of the post!
At the first course, 80% of those who do not know why they are studying enter. But already by the 5th of these 20% remain on the strength ... It looks like Paretto’s law. =)
Many go through colleges and go to universities. The university program overlaps the college program. So why should I go to college first? To work then a year? And if I already know for sure why I want to go to college?
Have you been in the army? What about your comrades? Everyone mows and does not want to serve there, but once they become they become exactly the same soldiers as those who went there voluntarily.
The quality of education and teaching methods are two different things. You have merged them. But here I will not even develop the topic, since in general you are right. A business should think much more about higher education.
The state teaches those people that it needs (albeit conditionally and according to the mythical plan). The state regulates the number of necessary specialists by allocating budget places for specialties. Everyone does the budget on general - the budget goes to the one who is better prepared to enter the university, i.e. it is logical to assume that he wants to get to this budget more than others. All the rest who want to study or mow from the army (or boring life) go to the paid department, and there are much more of these than students studying at the expense of the budget of the Russian Federation.
I agree - there is a problem that graduates immediately want a lot. According to my observations, for some reason these are problems of the very last graduations of students, and specifically Muscovites. We snickered here in the capital =)
I don’t know who you were arguing with, but I think you came across some nerd who was impressed by a teacher in the classroom. This is where in our country top managers are taught at the first highest? No need to hide the name of the university - I do not see anything criminal in it. You, it seems to me, argued with that. It is really both sad and funny.
A surgeon becomes a surgeon only after several years of assisting in operations. Well, it's just me that the analogy is not entirely correct.
And now, can I reason a little.
Gentlemen, do not forget - many of you are programmers here, and I do not want to offend, programmers are very superficial, at the level of typical web applications. This is not an insult in any way - it’s just that type of work that someone must definitely do and many of you are very appreciated by employers for such programming and this affects your income.
It is such programming in universities that they are able to teach so far is bad. This problem is being solved, slowly but surely, but it will be finally solved when the education system is changed. Since it seems hard to teach 5 years what changes every 1.5-2 years. But there are many other specialties. Do you need any items? Well, don’t teach, only then I start talking with such programmers on issues of narrowly-specific tasks and people don’t know commonplace things - what is marginal profit, how is the difference between income and profit, what is C2H5OH, NPV, efficiency and MPC. =) (the examples were deliberately taken from more than one subject, although they turned out one-sided). But then this programmer remembers that he had such and such objects, and remembers only by the fact that he drank beer during lectures.
So, back to the professions. This year, the ministry cut a large number of places in such specialties as jurisprudence, organization management, state and municipal administration, etc. - feel the trend? These are just those specialties that have enjoyed wild popularity in recent years. but for specialties related to IT they provide additional budget places, because there are few really good specialists who can work with complex systems and tasks. Unfortunately, now I will give only one example, since here it is no longer special. There is such a specialty "Information Systems and Technologies", and in a university like RGUITP, students in this specialty are honed to work with IBM products- Lotus, WebSphere something else there five. So, those units that will be able to complete their studies until the end of the meeting can qualify for a salary of 45,000 rubles, and after a couple of years - 80,000 - 90,000 rubles. And all because specialists able to work in the environment of the same lotus can be counted on the fingers and tear off everyone with their hands. And I haven’t seen anything self-taught in this area yet.
Another example from another area - I uploaded such a worthy university as MITT . While I was "fooling around" in the department of "marketing and management", my comrades were stuck in laboratories for 6 years, receiving education in the fields of polymer materials, biotechnology and material synthesis. And believe me - this same cannot be learned in 6 years, and the level of training of these specialists is very high.
We have problems with higher education, there are problems with teaching methods, problems with studying in dynamic (rapidly developing) specialties are also big. But I assure you - they know them, try to solve them and, I hope, they will solve it soon.
Thanks for attention!
