Twitter - what's the use of the service?

Perhaps my opinion contradicts the generally accepted one and I’ll get a good deal of karma, but I’ve been wanting to speak about twitter for a long time, as notes about this service are constantly coming across.

In my opinion, this is a useless service. Tell me, why should I read other people's household notes in 1-2 sentences? Or Twitter for those who on other services write in the comments “many letters, did not master”? Units can express thoughts aphoristically to make reading interesting.
Brief messages to friends are easier to send via ICQ.
I think that the hype around Twitter is bloated. Or maybe I don’t understand what - what's the catch?
