SocialExp 2008 - Day One

    Just given the Internet, and I'm starting to cover events.

    The organization from the very beginning (registration, the Internet, handouts, even badges) loses to ProfyClub conferences (I can compare - it was at all 4 held in Russia). The only thing that pleased us was a faceted souvenir glass with the words “Socializer” and a disk with a speech by Edward Jordan (April 2008, Moscow).

    Now the opening should begin (by tradition it’s delayed), so that's all for now. Keep track of who did not find the N-th amount. By the way, it is still unclear why the price of CareerLab is higher than that of ProfyClub. Leave it aside eTarget - where specificity determines prices.

    Yes, the work of the girls with the documents for registration (payment, travel) - well delivered.

    Internet periodically falls off.

    Viral marketing from Goblin Gaga (Ruslan Paush) - hypergraphs, their analysis and generation of contagious groups. It is argued that with the correct selection of such groups, projects are practically independent of the type of content and form of presentation. Quite debatable, but apparently, people believe this guy)

    Social networks - Expirience without banknotes - Vladimir Garev , grape.ru )
    Luls, memes, memophages (they are evil clowns who like to FAPAT). A lot of funny, lively and colorful about the Platypuses, the Bear as a political leader.

    They almost listened to an excerpt from Arabovision (in Google ** poison - ** poison - the song overtook porn traffic) - failed for technical reasons. But the audience crawls under chairs from meeting with familiar images - for example, Putin and Cthulhu, flash mobs at online conferences and much more useful and funny. A plus sign flies to Vladimir - the audience is delighted!

    New generation social networks and prospects for Internet business - Igor Eidman The

    classification of social networks is quite academic. The pinnacle of development is a mathematically calculated and proven self-organizing network. Igor expects to use blogs as the "bricks" of such networks.

    The main idea is that every respectable self-respecting person should have a living resource that allows him to express himself, create his own image. Self-actualize and integrate into society.

    The report also made an attempt to define web 3.0 - a network of people through all types of communication. For me it’s too early to talk about version 3. "Web 2.0 first complete (s)?". And I completely agree with this - another concept is too ephemeral. Wait and see)

    Last report before dinner:

    Hidden Internet - Alexey Andreev (WebPlaneta)

    Issues of the shadow side of the Internet, refusal of YAN services, economics of torrents. Intellectual property problems on the example of narod.ru and boom.ru, which degenerated into “Disk” - a repository of user data that is no longer a home page and is more difficult to index.

    The main trend of growing networks is user protection. Facebook protects its users from Google Friends Connect, vspomni.ru struggles with crosses on vkontakte.ru - everyone tries to keep their data in themselves.

    Registration is becoming more complicated, the fight with robots, identity forgery, humanized recommendations are intensifying. Examples include VIP communities hive5.ru, top4top, snob.ru, which are now losing their main goal and mutating due to poor network selection and the lack of online credibility in Central Asia.

    I really liked the phrase about VIP-networks: "If you are a millionaire - what for you such a party?"

    The long-suffering party of ezhe.ru Internet professionals is mentioned - the speaker predicts a complete killing from corporate wars and a trend bias towards the exploitation of the name.

    Web 3.0 is revealed as a giant graph of humanity, a one-time boom for all services. This contradicts existing relationships between closed communities. This is the "blue dream of marketers." Currently, with web 2.0, network marketing 1.0 is due to the lack of marketers of a new mindset.

    From myself: an interesting report, the audience is involved, some even forgot about lunch. Well, I ran)

    When they start paying users of social networks - Anton Popov

    Accidentally got on this report. It turned out - not in vain. A very controversial point of view in particular on the homeless.

    It is proposed to create a closed community of homeless people who earn money together. Moreover, thematic areas, methods of earning are divided between the participants, the community is transparent inside.

    And now why do I disagree fundamentally - no one will burn the most profitable topics to others and will not limit themselves to the framework of communities, at the same time taking on certain obligations. I believe that the homeless community has already been formed, but it can not be called an established social network. None of the designated circle will ever strive to create such a network or join it, because where there is real money (I agree, often there are not so many, although some people already buy apartments for Internet income), there will never be equality.

    Social networks and socialism cannot be associated.

    In general, the report leaves a feeling of imperfection.

    update @ 14: 55

    So far, nothing interesting is happening.

    “Custom advertising in new social services, the use of user communication to promote the brand” performed by Korobeinikova Ksenia (Mail.ru).

    I can’t say anything intelligible - I didn’t listen.

    Appeal to those who read and have been on other reports - rate them in the comments. Then we get a more complete picture of the first CareerLab conference of this magnitude.

    “Organization of the work of virtual teams” - Ilya Antipov and associates, each of whom has his own blog.

    This report is closest to me, I lingered on it for 10 minutes - on the scratchpad they explain what refactoring, code-review and other incomprehensible (?) Things are) In general, the level of the report is in the middle, and the speaker was cheated by a microphone. It is not clear that of the above applies directly to the formation and process of the virtual team. The only thing that managed to be squeezed in meaning - people run each blog, connecting them into a network and promoting all this in a bunch.

    If there is anyone who has caught more sense - please correct, I will be grateful.

    Successful project - user-oriented project - Pavel Konoplitsky (UsabilityLab)

    “The market forgives the pioneers” - it doesn’t matter how convenient the user interface for your service is if it is the first of its kind. Odnoklassniki is traditionally cited as an example, which is not beautiful from the side of the speaker. Perhaps such dislike has a background?

    From the outside, the report seems rather folding, but as a result of the questions it turned out that the speaker poorly linked the concepts of “usability” and “monetization”. According to Pavel’s answers, “first of all - the user”, but the question arises: forgive me, but what for are we just a user, if you do not get money from him?

    In the answers I expected to hear at least the word “compromise”, but I did not wait for it ...

    In general, the report made a negative impression.

    How to send 3 letters or practical experience working with the API - Eugene Rossinsky (NetStream)

    Explanatory report for those unfamiliar with 3 letters. Methods of expanding the service are proposed due to the API and "their smaller brothers - gadgets, widgets."

    The problems of using the API listed by the speaker (very close to the text):

    - "a third-party service fell off - your site turns into a shit site";
    - “If you allow outsourcers to your API, they will certainly mess up” - according to Murphy’s law;
    - “The API will have to be documented - and as fully as possible”;
    - “firewalls, proxies shut down services at the most unexpected moment, but to the user in parallel, that the problem is on his side”;
    - "when changing the API, you need to manage not to break the products of partners built on it."

    There is much more interesting about JS services, mashups, cross-platform based on Google Gears, Adobe Air, etc.

    Conclusion: API is a problem for the owner of the service, but without it in large, highly loaded projects, nowhere. As a result of working with partners, we get a lot of stress, but with the growth of the project we will have to get used to it.

    You can’t give the API full functionality - so as not to lose your own data. Give limited functionality that allows you to build additional web applications like Facebook on its basis. Trite truth, but the report paid special attention to it.

    Overall the report is good.

    Conclusions on the first day:
    food -
    there are excellent reports that listen is a pleasure
    the speakers are surprisingly free to feel comfortable and are not shy about colloquial expressions))
