OLPC: XO-2 Concept

OLPC introduced the concept of the next generation of cheap XO-2 laptops. In size, the new XO will be half the size of its predecessor, but it will be equipped with two touch displays, one of which will replace the keyboard.

The design features of the XO-2 will allow it to be used as a laptop (in this case, letters and symbols will be displayed on one of the touch screens), and when the device is rotated 90 degrees, like an e-book or a mini-TV to watch video.

XO-2 innovations affected not only the technical performance of the PC, but also its cost. According to the statement of the founder of OLPC, Nicholas Negroponte, with the start of mass production, the price of the laptop will not exceed $ 75. However, given the problematic pricing in relation to the first version of XO (the declared price of $ 100 eventually turned into $ 180-190), Negroponte's words can be treated with a share of healthy skepticism.

Mass production of XO 2.0 will begin by 2010.
