Sergey Brin's wife creates a social network on human chromosomes

The founders of the 23andMe biotechnology company, Anna Wojcicki and Linda Avey, gave a great interview in which they talked about the essence of their unique business, which combines the first personal genetics web service and social networks in the world.

23andMe (translated as “23 chromosomes and I”) received solid venture funding from Google shortly after Anna Wojcicki and Sergey Brin officially sealed their long-standing relationship by marriage. It might seem that in this way Sergey simply thanked the woman who sheltered him and Larry Page in her garage a long time ago, when they still did not have money to rent an office for the future Google company. But now it’s clear that these investments were not made at all, but because 23andMe is developing truly revolutionary technologies.

Starting yesterday, every visitor to 23andMe can order a special device for taking genetic material. The sample taken is sent to the laboratory (so far the laboratory is only in the USA, but in the future a whole network will be opened around the world). There the material is analyzed , and all the information goes to a personal genome accounton the 23andMe website. In this social network, users can search for unknown relatives and identify common ancestors up to the Stone Age.
