Kotlin Android Developers Meeting

The long-awaited release of Kotlin 1.0 took place this week, with which I congratulate all involved! My team of Android developers Avito.ru decided that this is a great occasion to meet and get acquainted with colleagues who program on Kotlin, discuss the prospects of the language, exchange experience gained in an informal setting, eat pizza, in general, spend the Saturday day with pleasure and benefit. To do this, we will organize a meeting “Android Development with Kotlin” on February 27 , join us!

In the meeting program, we have a special guest, a representative of the JetBrains team Dmitry Zhemerov, who will talk about what Kotlin 1.0 is offering Android developers today, what opportunities will appear in the near future. Avito.ru team has been using a combination of Kotlin and Rx for a long time, we have already released two applications for production, where there is not a single line in Java. We are pleased to share our experience and approaches. The report of our third speaker, Vladimir Mironov, will be devoted to delegated properties, a topic that excites those who have already plunged into development on Kotlin. Register and come to the meeting, invite colleagues and friends!

Under the cut, more about the speakers, the program and the format of the event.

First, the most important thing, the speakers and the reports that will be presented at the meeting.

Those who follow the development of Kotlin do not need to represent Dmitry Zhemerov, Principal Engineer on the JetBrains team, one of the first language developers, the head of the team developing the plug-in for IntelliJ IDEA, co-author of the book Kotlin in Action . At the meeting, Dmitry will talk about the new features that Kotlin provides to Android developers as of version 1.0, as well as what can be expected in the next versions (incremental compilation in Gradle, support for Lint checks, new features in the IDE, reducing the size of runtime and so on). So that everyone has the opportunity to ask all the accumulated questions, we will organize a separate Q&A section.

Vladimir Mironov has been engaged in Android development for more than four years, during which time he managed to work on several projects, including at Odnoklassniki. Last year, Vladimir has been working in a small startup and writes all the code exclusively on Kotlin. His talk will be about delegated properties, a topic that raises many questions. We will find out why they are needed, what delegated properties a standard library provides, write some examples, see what delegated properties turn into at compile time.

I am developing professional tools for Avito.ru users. We recently released two applications for production, written entirely in Kotlin, with an architecture built around Reactive Extensions. I will talk about those language tools that allow you to write on Rx cleanly and reliably. I’ll introduce you to Rx libraries, where Kotlin’s power is already being used to its full potential, I’ll touch upon questions regarding testing.

In addition to all of the above, we will have time to chat in an informal atmosphere, having a bite of pizza.

The meeting will be held in the Moscow office of Avito.ru (Lesnaya, 7) on February 27, starting at 12:00. Unfortunately, the number of seats in the hall is limited, and there is a throughput system in the BC, so you need to registerand get confirmation, and on the day of the event, bring along a passport or driver’s license.

If you have any questions, it is better to ask them through the form on the registration page on Timepad .

We are waiting for you at the mitap!
